Ever had that one tog mate?

Seriously, anyone who can make the statement that Nikon are kids toys isn't worthy of any credibility at all. He sounds like someone on an ego trip and totally unsure of his own abilities, afraid of a bit of criticism, and bolstering his ego by putting you down. ;)

what he said/

I agree with everyone he isnt a friend, sounds like an idiot. I had something a bit similar in that I did a photo shoot for somebody I worked with at a very cheap price as a favour. Spent hours editing her photos with a lot of love then when I showed them to her, she did nothing but snarled and criticised the photos and my work.

I bet this is her insecurity about herself - low selfesteem. I once had a client saying I made her arms look fat - but she must have been 20 stone, wearing a sleeveless dress at least one size too small. I beat myself up for days over that before realising she just had a problem about her self-image. But I learned to encourage people to bring several outfits to shoots, so she did actually do me a favour.

I think the only way to deal with the colleague/prat is to be polite, don't get caught up in his dramas and continue to enjoy your photography. And if you don't learn anything else from him, you know you wouldn't treat another tog like he's treating you. I bet you're a much happier person than he is. :) :) :)

Ohhh I got an idea, get a new shot, a good one, then ask his opinion. While he's looking tell him that you enjoy learning and would hate to know everything in a lighthearted and polite way, then after he slates your work (which will happen by the sounds of it) just say, Oh ok, it just won me £2k in a national photo comp, then you walk off. Then say nothing more on the subject.

You don't need opinions that will not help you.

Owning an expensive camera just makes you an expensive camera owner, not necessarily a good photographer.

There might be a bit of that there "reverse psychology" at work here. Your work may well be better than his, he knows this and is trying to undermine your confidence.

On the other hand he could be co..... ;)

My friend used to do that kind of thing - not with photography but with just about everything else. Just insecure and trying to be better than everyone he feels threatened by.

My friend was 10 at that time. Ignore this idiot and don't worry about him seeing this, he deserves it!
