evening flash photography

Wondering if anyone knows of a good tutorial for evening flash photography?
I see plenty of pics (especially wedding pics) of people where the sky is dusk and well lit in the background but the models are perfectly exposed in shot too.

Any ideas?

I think you might actually be referring to a technique which is often described as 'creative lighting' or 'strobism'. There's loads of tutorials on it (search google or youtube), but essentially you control the exposure of the ambient light with your shutter speed, and then control the power of your flashgun with the aperture/ISO/flash power itself.
