Thought I'd introduce myself here - I'm returning to photography after a long absence. My old SLRs got nicked about 8 years ago and I never really got round to replacing them.

I've been getting along fine with a G10 for the last few years but it's now time to get back to SLRs. Looking at getting a used 40D body and a decent walkabout lens to start off with. Head says 17-85 EF-S, heart says 24-105L :)

My younger brother is pritchi83 of this very parish, only wish my photography skills were as good as his!

Cheers!

Scott

Hi Scott,
Welcome to TP.
I expect your brother has told you all about it.

hi and welcome...how did you get on with the G10 regarding eye level focussing

Thanks for the warm welcome :)

WRT eye-level focussing on the G10 - depends on the subject really. You don't get any focus info on the viewfinder. It's fine for applications like landscapes where I can be relatively sure that it'll focus correctly without me having to check the screen. For subjects where I'd have to explicitly focus on a particular object, I'd have to use the screen.

that makes the G10 a lead balloon for me..i dont like rear screens
will have to stick with the bridge camera situation a bit longer
