Hello, I'm Julian.
My dad recently gave me his trusty old Mamiya 645, and I've really enjoyed using it. I've struggled a bit trying to remember the rules of manual cameras - reading light, choosing depth of field, etc etc, but I did a fair bit of photography at college in the 90's with my OM10 so after a while 'the old magic' came flooding back....!:lol:
I still have my dad to ask advice from - he was (is?) an LRPS, Licenciate of the Royal Photographic Society, so he kinda knows his stuff, and he's been giving me a few pointers, but no doubt I'll be coming on here quite a bit to ask advice that's a bit more up to date.
I grew up with a darkroom in the house and got to use it quite a bit in my early 20's but my dad sold all his kit as his eyes packed in and he couldn't really use it. As regards to this forum I'm expecting to just about understand most things people go on about but I know I'm definitely no expert so I'll be asking everyone's guidance quite a bit.
Anyway - that's me - over and out for now.

Welcome so are you just using the Mamiya now? Might be a bit too advanced for most of us here ;)

Hello Mr Robber,
No, I'm not using just the Mamiya, although I find that using it forces me to think more before taking the shot, you know? I know that that way I learn more, kind of, so I'm trying to use it as much as poss. I also have an old trusted OM10 - it's nothing special obviously, but I have a full set of Zuiko lenses for it, 28mm up to 300mm, and I'm so familiar with it I can't bear to let it go, even to trade up!:D It's never let me down anyway...:)
I've been talking to people at work who've spent hundreds on new digital cameras, big fancy SLR's and they think they're the mutt's nuts, you know? I steer the conversation away from how much money they've spent and how many megapixels they have, and onto actual photography, and they're lost!:lol:
 
Yes well you'll find both types here. I learned on film 25 years ago, but am all digital now. Then there are those who don't know what film is ...:bang:
