Eve Arnold

I got her book 'People' last Christmas. Inspiring

Sad news, a real legend of photography.

Me too, Phil. Kind of inspired me to really get into photography. Very sad, she was indeed a legend.

A few years ago I was lucky enough to hear her speak as one of the "Magnum Women Photographers". (Cartier Bresson came with her!). Her images were inspational. A sad loss indeed.

A sad loss? I always find that strange when someone dies at a ripe old age. The only certain thing in life is death and she had a long life during which she produced great work. I prefer to celebrate the life (and in this case work) rather than mourn the death.

So thanks Eve for some inspirational work.

Just about to start on BBC4...

Didn't see this thread or know this was on but had been watching the programme before and was about to turn the TV off when this was announced. So glad I watched - inspirational stuff.

She summed up her work by saying "A lot of work. A lot of attention to detail. A lot of disappointment. And a lot of joy." I think that's a fitting lasting tribute.

:'( Gutted I missed this,
I was asleep in bed by the time photon posted, so couldn't even set the sky+
working messes with things like this, I am up at 5am, so have to be in bed reasonably early,
just checked the iplayer and it states:
11.30pm Omnibus (Not available)

Will check again later this afternoon, fingers crossed it will appear on the iplayer

Still not on i-player yet :(

I visited this on Saturday

May be good for you people near London. It is an awesome exhibition, free too! You could combine the visit with a walk along the south bank and Ronnie Scotts in the evening like I did

Must check out some more Eve Arnold stuff. Some great shots on the bbc site.

Those are lovely words.

I'll add another recommendation for the London exhibition which is well worth a visit and very close to Victoria and St James Park stations. Handy for the Tate also if you've got the time. A sad loss to photography but a great body of work left to remind us.
