Euro 2024

in a choreographed Arsenal side he's been ok..... let us down a few times with England and fairly consistently passes it back..... young yes..... but I don't find him that pretty

Rice had been outstanding this season and still pretty young.

Rice has been outstanding for Arsenal this season, but he's been playing as a 8, Southgate had him playing as a 6. Bellingham had a brilliant season in Spain, playing as a 10 in a fast moving dynamic team. In fact most of the players are used to playing fast dynamic football, but Southgate seemed scared of letting the players play as they do for their clubs.

Thats the point I made to a mate. Most players (probably aside from the Palace boys) are used to dominating games and being ruthless - how many 4 or 5 goal beatings did Liverpool. arsenal or City (or even Madrid) hand out?

If you believe what you read on social media, including photography forums, you'd think England had been knocked out of the competition about three times and lost every game, not that they reached the final and only lost due to an 86th minute goal. It is impossible to deny how successful the team under Southgate has been compared to previous decades, for all the complaints.

Klopp next please, we know the sort of football he likes his teams to play. No-one will complain about negativity with him in charge, they'll probably complain about taking too many risks instead. With the caveat that I only watched the final and only then because the friend I had staying at the weekend said she wanted to watch it, despite neither of us being football fans and my knowledge of football being mostly limited to buying stickers for those Panini books in primary school in the 1970s (and being able to explain the offside rule, though not why it exists).

Slightly pedantic but qualifying was harder in most of that time, now 3rd can get you in!!

It's the MANNER of the way we have been knocked out and played, with the best team. Very basic tactical decisions that everyone seems to agree on being wrong.

For sure I’d rather be knocked out in the last 16 or quarters against a team like Iceland than get to a semi or a final and lose.
