Euro 2016

Bye the way, who's the ITV pundit with Barry Gibb's teeth? I'm sure I should recognise him..

Probably like every other tournament, big let down from our less than talented lot.

Said it before the tournament on this thread, every single time it's the same, bloody useless and well done Iceland, deserved to win

Trying to be serious for a moment :) at least Hodgson has gone now so that's a big plus, he should have gone after the last world cup debacle!

Had a fb message from my son who is in china working asking me in all my years of watching England was it ever this bad. Yeah mate I told him, its always been this f***ing bad :(. I feel sorry for him its nearly 6am where he is and he's at work in a couple of hours

Why the hell do we watch these games?
This is torture which we already know the outcome of .
Iceland had a good defence, but they also had better passing and vision.
Iceland were not frightened of losing.
Were we frightened of winning?

The one thing amongst many that struck me last night was our inability to undertake the basic fundamentals of football. Inept manager and lack of tactics does not explain why a highly paid professional player cannot deliver a ball into the box from a corner or well placed free kick.
My missus reckons the fans in England shirts in the crowd confuses them causing them to overhit everything. Joking aside it is appalling, also saw the ball going under feet and misplaced passes of less than five yards, basic errors, bloody useless lot

This is the England we know when playing high stakes tournament football. We know these players are better than this, we see them week in/week out. It is a mental thing and is down to the pressure of the occasion and the expectation of the fans and the media. The manager (whoever) must be able to get the best out of his players ! It is that simple. Who is that manager ? That is not so simple. Someone on '606' last night compared the results of Englands rugby team under Eddie Jones with the performance of basically the same players under Stuart Lancaster. Maybe we should get the management team of Iceland ?

I wonder what the ITV build up to the wales game will consist of now? No matter which home nation game was on, they seemed to concentrate on england.
Did Rooney come out of this okay (well, better than expected) considering how much stick he took beforehand?

At least your team qualified and played in the Euros, that is more than I can say about my team. Chin up, its a game of two teams and only one can win.

Personally I was gobsmacked that after all the qualifying and friendlies he still didn't seem to know his best team and his tactics. The farce against Slovakia came home to roost last night, instead of building on the win against Wales with the same players he changed it all again. We were completely ineffectual last night, there was very little if any running off the ball, an essential gameplay with a team which defends in such numbers, and in the second half our passing was atrocious. At least when Rashford came on he livened them up, he should have been on thirty minutes earlier.

I can only think about the lucky souls who bet a bit of spare cash on Iceland win!

I bet £1 on Iceland to come from behind and win so i netted £55 :-D

in hindsight a bigger bet would have been great, but I am not so bold in my betting. Interesting, Paddy Power who previously were offering less than I bet to cash out on my bet for them to win the whole thing, now want to cash out more than I bet. But i think i'll stick with my original plan :)

@jonoooo125 - braver than me! i do tend to stick to small bets and i hadnt originally planned to bet on this match as I'd already done my £10 on some other small bets, but I had a bet refunded as a player didnt start so £1 it was for this match. well done mate :-)

I wish I had waited 4 minutes in! Haha, it was a freebet, I'm not a gambler usually but I signed up earlier in the week for something else and I put all my free bets on the bigger odds, I was hoping for Hungary to win as well!

I am sure the caller probably knows chuff about egg-chasers, the English rugby squad oozes quality and profesionalism, something the England football squad is sadly lacking.

His name has cropped up on Talksport a few times this morning even from an ex player or two.
Another counter argument related to the amount of expectation heaped upon the football team, world wide rather than a handful of countries.

Well that was good for business (if you run an Icelandic business)!

My opinion though, Iceland were ok, but not that great. It really helped that Rooney kept giving them the ball and Park had his rubber hand on.

Come on Iceland, time for a Frexit!!

@TonyPrower think Iceland did what they needed to do, stepped up to the plate and played a good game. can they go beyond France - who knows - but push came to shove and they put the work in. I'm only a casual football fan these days (hence my supporting Iceland) but Iceland just gave off a feeling of knowing what they needed to do and doing it. England just, didn't. Or maybe I'm just an Iceland-ophile (maybe........ definitely) :-D

Just seen the BBC footage of the Wales squad joyously celebrating Englands defeat. Think I'll support Iceland now.

just as it has always been, A.B.E.

I will still be cheering on Wales but Belgium are gonna thump em.

It was 7:1 when I put my tenner on haha
9-1 at betfair, but despite my pessimism for England I didn't really think Iceland would win. Instead put a tenner, my last free bet, on england to win on a penalty shoot out :)
