As my wife had agreed to look after our 5 month old Grandson Ethan on Saturday night, I took the chance to try to capture a nice portrait of him whilst he was still at our place on Sunday morning. Unfortunately, it is not the easiest camera to use for taking pictures of a moving baby especially indoors with a fast film and no flash, this meant that the aperture was set at it's widest f3.2 and with a shutter speed of 1/60th didn't leave much room for error (and there was plenty of that). This one was the 'oh, so nearly image'
The full sized version of the full image was 1.16GB Tiff which gave a 16888x12282 pixel image. This image would make a 56.3" x 41" print at 300dpi or would require a 234.6 inch x 170.6 inch monitor to view it at full size.
This image was shot on a Fuji GX680 using a Fuji 125mm GX-M f3.2 lens @ f3.2.with a shutter speed of 1/60th secondand captured on Kodak Tri-X at ISO1000 (YES THAT'S CORRECT ISO1000), the back end of the camera was resting on the floor.
The film was Semi-Stand developed using the Caffenol CL formula at 21 degrees Centigrade and with the following agitation regime:
Formula: mixed into 500mls of distilled water at 8.4PH.
8g Sodium Carbonate (anhydrous)
5g Vitamin C (Asorbic Acid)
0.6g Potassium Bromate
20g Tesco Really Rich Coffee Granuals
30 seconds continuous agitation
after a further 2 minutes 3 inversions
after a further 4 minutes 3 inversions
after a further 8 minutes 3 inversions
after a further 16 minutes 3 inversions and finally pouring out the Caffenol CL after a further 28 minutes and 30 seconds prior to 4 tanks of wash water and an Alkali Fix followed by repeated tanks of wash water with a rinse aid to finish.
I altererd the timing of the Caffenol CL Developer as I had previously had over developed negatives using the 65 minute regime I deducted 6 minutes from the time and ended up with a time of 59 minutes and absolutely beautifully developed negatives.
The image was scanned on an Epson V750 pro scanner at 6400dpi from the 6x8cm negative.
Real pity I missed the focus though, mind you, have you tried to capture a moving subject with a FUJI GX680?
