Oh god I've got to do one of these "hello this is me postings again". I'm rubbish at these - so no one laugh, m'kay?
Hi,
I'm Pooka. That's not my real name, since I only use my real name in the office - outside of work, I'm just Pooka. Makes life easier for me. I suppose I should really say something about me, but I'm really bad at this sort of thing, so here goes nothing.
I'm relatively new to this photography thing (with some exceptions I'll come to in a second), and I've never dabbled in post processing stuff - I'm normally someone who works with sound, rather than visual arts, so I'm tiptoeing around trying to find my feet. Last month I went out and got my hands on an EOS1000D - I didn't want to lash out too much money just in case things went horribly wrong and I didn't enjoy myself, and just ended up wasting lots of money. So far things seem to be going ok though, and I've got a couple of lenses with it and I've been taking the odd photo here and there, but now I'm looking to learn a bit more. I don't really understand what everything is and how it all works, and I know I could really do with learning it all.
Prior to getting the Canon I used to run around nightclubs with a Finepix F6500SD - I've grabbed some fantastic shots with it, but when you're photographing DJs, dancers, clubbers and musicians you can't really ask them to stop and pose for you - it's normally a case of setting up the camera at the start of the night, snapping away like a demented fool every time something catches your eye and deleting the ones that don't work when you get home. On average I was taking over 600 photos a night and deleting most of them!
I've only just started taking photos outside the club scene, and I discovered that not only do I enjoy it, but I really have no clue when it comes to how everything works. For now, I'm just jumping in the car, driving off somewhere and experimenting. I'll keep playing around over the next few months until I really get to grips with it all!
Apart from the photography stuff, I'm a DJ (the username is a bit of a give away I suppose) and a former club dancer (although not done that in more years than I can count.) I've worked as the photographer for a couple of dance troupes, and I've always got a camera with me out clubbing. I'm also an avid gamer (Rock Band is my main poison) and I can often be found on either my PC or the Xbox when I'm sat here doing very little. I would have more hobbies outside that, but my current workload has trashed my social life and hobbies!
Well, I think that's everything I can say for now. If you've made it this far through without laughing, I've done something right!
Oh yeah, and HI!
