This seems a bit strange. I am getting an error 99 on my 400d. Done as manual says, turn off reinsert battery, but still no go.

So phoned up canon and spoke to a young lady, see asked if it showed the error on all lenses, this I had not checked, so I said I would check and phone back.

Now for the strange part, the camera works fine with no problems with my other lenses. So just for the heck of it, I put on a 2x converter (only used it twice) and hey presto the lens works fine with no error report.

So would anyone agree that the problem would seem to be with the lens.

As if it is the lens, then I dont have long as I bought it on the 28th of august last year (think it had a 12 month warenty).

What lens is it?

It sounds like its either the lens itself, or the contacts.
Try giving the electrical contacts on the lens a clean :)

Hi Marcel.

It is a TAMRON SP AF 200-500MM. I have tried cleaning the contacts on the lens but no go:(

Good ol error 99. It means I don't have an error code for the error.

looks like the converter is isolating the problem. I don't know the lens , but do you have a AF/MF switch. try changing that to see if it makes any difference. Failing that I suggest you contactTameron, Intro 2020 are the agents in the UK . Their Service Telephone no is 01628 799902 . You may be better off initially contacting the dealer who sold you the lens.

Hi Chappers.

Have tried your sugestion but still no go:( . Will try and find my receipt tonight when I get home. Thanks for the phone number:thumbs:

I had the same error on my 400 d about 3 months ago

had tried everything I found on the net relating to this error, still it would not take pictures.

took it back to jessops and they sent it off for a repair

When it came back it all works fine, but canon never told me what they did or what the issue was.

Good luck

Mike

Hi dj_myk.

Dont think it is the camera, as my other lenses work fine.

Hope it aint the camera as it is out of warrenty on 14th this month and the lens is out on the 28th of this month:gag::gag::gag:.

So I think I am going to go with faulty lens.

Its a lens problem. Might be an old version of chip in the lens.
I had this, quite some time ago now with my 105 macro, It needed re-chipping which Sigma did for a fee (since I'd lost the receipt ... bahh!)

ahhhh well that is semi good.

My camera would not work with any lens, even the kit one

Mike

Hi all.

First of all thank you for your replys and help.

Good news is, I have phoned intro2020 (what a help full lady:thumbs:). Explained every thing and she confermed that it was a lens problem (either a faulty diaphram or the main PCB board). And as I still have the recipt showing it was bought on the 28th august last year. To send the lens direct to them, and they will either fix it or replace it.
