Yes
hey everyone,

was taking pics last night, battery died, so changed it, then when I took a pic, it came up with "error 99" (pretty sure it was that number)
saying "please turn off and/or take batter out"

scared the crap out of me lol, so I did both, then it was fine, walked around, turned on, took a pic, same....took batter out, cleaned it (wasn't dirty, but just did it) then it has been fine ever since?

but confused, can anyone elaborate more on this error please? and do I have anything to worry about?

thanks in advance :)

Suraj

Well take the batter out then if that's what it says

From memory, there is one error message that basically is "don't know what that is" !

If you get it, the advice has always been, in order :

  • change battery
  • change storage card
  • change lens (clean contacts if required)
  • Send back to Canon. :gag:
Usually, one of the first three cover it.

or reinstall the firmware... that can cure a few problems.

Bit more in depth now

OP: What oil did you use and was it a deep or shallow fry?

Suj,
I had the same problem with my 40D a couple of weeks ago, was using a 70-200 F4 L, I cleaned the contacts of the lens and its been fine ever since, give that a try and hopefully it will resolve the problem, if not then I dont know
HTH
Russ.

thanks for all the replies boys, i appreciate it

I was using the 17-85mm lens.

Tijuanna, I did do what it said (as I said in the original post), but I want to know why this occured, so it don't happen again/cause any damage!

thanks John-Oh, i did the first 3, and it did cure it, hopefully I never have to do the 4th lol

Adsayer, thanks, that is a great idea :)

Russ (Levien) thanks mate, I have done that, and has been fine, so hope it was just that

thanks Bigdeaks, will have a look at them now

thanks for replies

Suraj

EDIT: looking at the link, I did swap from an OEM battery to a non-OEM battery, so that might of been the problem
