Today, I took out my 3 week old Canon 40D, only to get an Err99 when I tried to take the first picture. The on-screen message said power off/on or reseat the battery. I powered it off/on and all worked fine. Then switched it off. Next time I switched it on, the same thing happened Err99. I then dound that it would work correctly every other time!!

I tried the battery reset, still worked every other time. Also decoupled lens (17-85) and still every other time.

Finally I removed the memory card and put back in and it's worked fine ever since.

Just thought I'd post this as it may help other 40D users in the same (weird) situation

Mr Perceptive

That happened to my wife on her 20D at a wedding!! She did what you did and it was fine after that.

Don't believe Nikons have this problem.......!!!!

Can't have everything in life perfect, can you?:D

I'd rather have Err99 than a Nikon tbh

:lol::boxer::exit::D

PS: I have never had Err 99 on any of my 2 Canons:shrug:

Who is your battery made by, this might sound stupid but most peoples is made by canon but the one with my 350d was a Uniross whatever the hell that is... I also have been getting err 99 but not recently

Battery is the Canon one, still on it's first discharge! Camera seems fine today, and I've not changed anything, memory card (Sandisk Extreme III) not been removed. At the moment I'll just put in down to 'one of those things'
