er 99.....on 40D today ??

Need some help here if possible, while I was shooting today at Oulton Park my 40D just locked up giving a er99 code and now just keeps saying the same code soon as I take a picture......I know I need to send it in but is there a logical reason why it has done this or someway of fixing this so I can use the camera tomorrow ??

Error 99 is the Canon code for "We aint got a clue what the hell is wrong" or so it seems. I had similar on mine and it had to go for repair, but it has been said it can sometimes be caused by a contact problem between the lens and the camera, so you could try cleaning the gold prong like things on the body and the corresponding gold bits on the lens, hopefully that might work, if not then it really could be anything!

Tried cleaning the contacts already....looks like I won't be taking pictures at Croft tomorrow then..

Battery, memory card, different lens?

I read on here someone found using a pencil rubber to clean the contacts worked, also as above, check the battery and CF card. Do you have another lens you could try to see if it's a lens related problem.

Sorry I'm not at Croft tomorrow, otherwise would have happily met up so you could try another lens if you didn't have one to try.

Seems to be the routine :

• Clean contacts.
• Remove any peripherals (battery grip etc.).
• Change lens.
• Change battery for a freshly charged one.
• Change CF card.

Send off for repair ....

Let us know how you get on, this error seems a bit of a mystery.

Swear at it repeatedly (this used to be my answer) before cleaning the contacts. If this fails, buy a Nikon

Well done all the sugestions and still no joy......look like going to Mr Canon
