i want to get my equipment insured with a value of 4000 pound against theft/loss/damage

but every company i look at so far that deals with photography insurance wants a purchase reciept for all the items. The problem is that i dont have that for most of the stuff i have as some has been bought second hand etc etc

anyone know of any that dont ask for this? as they must realise alot of people cannot provide reciepts for everything in this day and age.

ING Direct.

I suffered a theft recently but personal possessions were under insured. Have now increased that cover to £7,500, and they didn't ask for any proof of purchases etc.

Hope this helps.

do you have cover away from home? as the theft is the main one i want as i have suffered in the past

Yep, I have a comprehensive policy; loss, theft in and away from the home and full accidental damage cover. This years premium is approximately £23 per month..

hey can you lost a few links to insurence companys *** id like to have a look around to but wouldent know where to start. thanks.

No worries..

Here's the one I use:-

Can't vouch for anyone else. I have a carbon fibre road bicycle insured also under personal possessions, but won't ever have both camera equipment or bike with me at the same time, hence the £7,500 maximum (the approximate value of replacing camera equipment, retail price).

Cheers, Mark

Thanks, wont spose you know if i can get my camcorder insured at the same time?? any maybe my phone to lol. i have all 3 with me time to time and id hate to think my beg got stollen or someting. so be great to have it all under one company.

Absolutely no idea mate. Best thing is to give them a call and tell them what you'd like insured etc. and they'll give you a quote. You can usually pay for premiums on monthly basis x 12, but they do need a deposit paid there and then before cover can commence (well that's what they required when i joined up).

I have added £10k to my household insurance for my camera kit, and when I have to had to make a claim they did't ask for reciepts, good job too as the item was purchsed in the US and I got paid at jessops replacement cost.

i added it to my household insurance, including cover away from home. Only stipulation was no single item could be worth over £1000. I did check that if the body was £1000 and it had a £1000 lens on it that it would still be covered and it is......

Thats with AA Home Insurance

the insurance companies i was looking at were specialist ones for just camera gear , so i expect that is why they wanted reciepts.

I will use a home insurance one with away from home insurance as that seems like the better & easier option

Thanks for your replies

this is something im looking at also

i have been quoted for contents insurance worth £10,000 with acidental damage and personal possesion is covered with excess of £150 for £9pm

this is for my camera+lens, pc, tv ect pretty much all my electrical stuff

what exactly am i covered for?

or

not covered for?

i have never had any dealings with insurace before so its all very new to me

they are all different , just read the terms before you commit to anything

You do need to check what level of cover for each type of item and in particular what (how much) is covered for away from home. your £10 will be the total level for all things in the home, if the total value is more you will only be covered for the percentage of under insurance. £10k does not take much to reach

Marks and Spencer home insurance will cover you for £4000 anywhare away from home under their house insurance. Not for pros.

Edit,

The £4000 is any one item!

you may find thats a little low, its surprising how things add up.

i did an itinery last time mine was due to work it out, and found i had over £3k in DVD's

Things add up quickly

i went with glover and howe. superb to deal with, they just wanted to know the serial no.s of my lenses and bodies etc. etc. worth a try in my opinion

i have only taken into account my electrical items nothing else as thats all im really fussed about being insured

You must then ensure that your insurer understands that orthey will take account of ALL of your posessions, and payout on that basis.
