Equipment failure rates

Whilst I keep hearing more and more accounts of equipment being DOA which suggests poor quality checks, on the whole gear seems quite reliable these days (touches wood). Just wondering what other peoples experiences are and what failures they have had both in and out of warranty.

For myself, I have had 2 Sony cameras fail (one totally dead and one sensor failure) and a Panasonic Lumix LCD failure all of these out of warranty period.
No bother with any of my Canon, Sigma, Tokina or Pentax stuff.
 
In 10 years of DSLR use, only my Nikon d700 and Nikon 16-35 have broken. The camera broke due to a screw missing on the lens that stops it rotating the wrong way. The camera blew up and took the lens with it. Both repaired outside of warranty FOC by Nikon.
 
I've not had a camera body fail - yet, but had a Tamron lens loose it's ability to focus :(

This was repaired, out of warranty, by Intro2020 and re-calibrated in double-quick time :D
 
My sigma 70-200 2.8 is dead more peed off that I only brought it a few months ago off here
 
I've been dead unlucky until the last year. Too many faults to list!
 
My 600D failed after just three months. The view through the viewfinder went trapezoid in shape and wouldn't focus. Then the entire camera went unresponsive with just a couple of beeps when I turned it on or pressed a button. If I left the battery in, it went flat in just a short time.
 
In forty years I've only ever had one DSLR lens fail, it wouldn't change aperture, and it was repaired under warranty.

I did think that there was something wrong with my Siggy 30mm f1.4 as the focus ring felt gritty in MF but when I went back to the shop and tried another it felt the same so I think it was a case of "They all do that." :D

Camera wise, a film got stuck in my Bessa R shutter and damaged it and although I'd say that the mechanism is very fragile I can't say it was a fault as such. Oh, and the aperture blades stuck on my Canonet but that was really down to old age :D

Otherwise everything has worked fine.
 
Only had my D3000 for 2 1/2 years but no issues at all. Long my it continue.
 
I've been using dslr's for only the last 18 months, but I've been using various digital cameras for over 10 years and I must have a charmed life as I've never had a breakdown in any camera I've had. I hope this isn't the kiss of death for everything electrical I own now, or else I'd be bankrupting my insurance company lol.
 
Not sure if it really counts, but I had a Nikon 70-200 lose it's focus. It was quickly sorted out with a service at Fixation.
 
The only failure I've had not due to an accident, was the Sigma 24-70, the internal clutch mechanism disintegrated - which is apparently a common fault - fairly cheap repair though.
