Always had my camera equipment on my house insurance but now it's starting to build up I'd like to get a quote for from a specialist company. Can anyone please recommend who to try first?

Eversure, they did a fantastic job getting my Nikon D800 fixed when i accidently dropped it. Came back better than ever, they even did a colour correction . before i struggled with the colour red , they fixed that and now a true colour as subject

Is the build up in kit driving a bike hike in premiums?

I just reinsured this week with halifax ( underwritten by aegon) and have £40k allowance for high value stuff which is covered on a £20k at any one time out of home as part of my general building and contents on a new for old basis

Tallies up to about £200 pa for the contents element which means it’s only about £30-35 pa for my camera gear to be included on my contents insurance as i still need the contents insurance for other gear.

Whenever i’ve looked at specialist insurance in the past for camera kit it’s been £00’s pa

Thanks to everyone for all the replies. Jim it was because of a build up of kit, so I'm looking to be extra careful.

It’s a common enough thought, but as others have said, unless you need cover for a particular reason (pro use) then using your home insurance is the best value cover you can get.

Standalone camera insurance is expensive, and that doesn’t guarantee its worth the money either, I’ve read countless stories of some of the popular companies being difficult to deal with. OTOH household insurance is often fairly easy to make a claim.

Just make sure they know that you have a lot of expensive gear

I have gadget insurance with American Express which is £6.50 a month and just covers my camera. Excess on £50 I think, with only having a couple of cheaper lenses at moment it's not end of world for them if I have to replace myself.

Eversure for me also. Repaired my Sigma lens no questions asked. Faultless.

Finally went with my home insurance and was advised to list all the items over £2,000 separately. They were most helpful.

I'm just looking at getting insurance on my gear a quick question is it worth having public liability? I don't make money from my photography.

thanks
