When I bought mine compatible inks weren't readily available so I went straight to a ciss, obviously the ink in it is compatible and I have no complaints at all about the print quality I get.
/edit I've owned Epson printers for as long as I've had a pc and never ever bought genuine inks for any of them.

i work for a compatible ink manufacturer and cannot express enough how far you should keep the R1800 away from any compatible cartridges or ink feed systems. no matter what, you will never get the same results or longevity of copy that you get with the OEM cartridges. I have an R1800 and a free supply of comptible cartridges if i wanted them and i wouldnt even consider it!
i use comps on my little HP but that is just for rough stuff and i payed sod all for the printer.
i know there are plenty of people on here who will dissagree and good luck to you :bonk:
