My Epson SC-P800 printer has declared a fatal error so I contacted the repairer recommended on Epsons web page only to be told that they don't repair that model. I contacted Epson via on line chat and was offered a fixed price repair for £900!!! A new upgraded model doesn't cost much more than that, Needles to say I am now looking at new printers.

Guessing not an Epsom?
Any chance you can fix the problem yourself, seen a few Epsom owners on here sort out issues that were deemed costly to repair

I don't mind an Epsom again, in fact I have posted in the wanted section for one. I would consider other options as well. As for fixing it, I spent 34 years in the Navy, initially as an engineer however after 7 years they realised how bad I was and let me transfer to the photographic branch. My skill at fixing things has not improved over the years!

What's up with it?

If it's an error code there is a chance of a fix.

My Epson gave a code which turned out to be waste ink full but the fix was a one time error fix and to fit a printer potty which was all very easy and straightforward to do.

So, if the fault involves an error code it could be worth looking into.

It doesn't help that when I switch it on it has defaulted back to Japanese so I can't even do a factory reset!

During the online chat with Epson they did say that the fault code relates to printer heads or circuits

likely a head gone. This is no big deal, just a nasty DIY expense for canon or Hp printers but a serious butchering operation for epsoms. Even if you can do it yourself you still need that part, so in best case scenario you just acquire another donor printer. That why i prefer to stick with the slightly older canon ipf 64xxline (8 won't fit through the door)
