I've got the chance to get an Epson Perfection 3200 for very cheap (10 euros), I know it's a pretty old model but I don't have the money for a newer one and I want to get scanning my negs soon! The only thing missing from it is the medium format / 5x4 holder, which may be a problem as I have a lot of 6x9 negs I want to scan. I've done some searches to try find replacements online but haven't turned anything up yet, so does anyone know where I could get one for cheap, or have experience with scanning medium format without the adapter, can it be done? Any help would be much appreciated!

It's not essential - you can scan negs without it, but it does help to hold them flat and in the right position.

Thanks, for some reason the one on ebay didn't show up when I searched last. Seems a bit much for what's essentially some cheap plastic, if I can scan without it though I might get the scanner and hope the adapter comes my way at a decent price later.

Some further help needed please! I've bought the scanner, and although it came with all the discs with the drivers and software etc, I'm having to download them off the internet as they are out of date. I'm on Windows 8 (which I'm finding atrocious to use), the Epson site doesn't have an update for this but I've downloaded the drivers for Vista. The scanner's working, and I can import an image from it into photoshop, but I need some scanning software (the program that would have come with the disc or something similar?), but I can't find the software anywhere on the net. I'm really sorry if this is something really obvious but I'm useless with this kind of thing, I just want to get scanning my negs!

Another scanning software option might be Vuescan, which a lot of folk here use...

Yep - another vote for Vuescan here! I have an Epson flatbed scanner and getting it to work on my Mac was a nightmare until I installed Vuescan, and then it just all worked happily.

It's just called "Epson Scan". It comes bundled with the TWAIN driver on the Epson website:

(there's no Windows 8 option, but I reckon the Windows 7 version will probably work fine)

That link won't work for me, but is it this site?

http://http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?oid=20882&BV_UseBVCookie=yes&infoType=Downloads&platform=OSF_W_VISTA-64

I've tried downloading both the Windows 7 and Vista versions but neither will work, it all downloads, and I have a link on my desktop, but the link won't open to anything, any idea what's going wrong? Thanks again for the help.

I got in contact with the seller and he had the 5x4 holder still, so I've got the whole setup now, which is excellent, but I'm still having no luck getting the software on my laptop. I'm considering downgrading to Windows 7, is this a smart move?!?

Vuescan really is the way to go, as it works well and you can continue to use it even if you change/upgrade scanners.

I've used it with my Plustek 35mm and my Epson flatbed scanners and it makes life much easier, because I can stick with one piece of software and not have to learn separate workflows.

Heck, I even use it with my HP printer/scanner too.

I was hoping I'd be able to get the free Epson software working, I've really not got the money to buy vuescan at the moment unfortunately, so I might have to wait a while longer till I can scan after all.

Have you tried running it using different Compatibility settings? Right click the program shortcut, click Properties, click the Compatibility tab, then run under Windows 7?
