just took delivery of Eyeone Display 2 monitor calibration kit and used it. At the same time started to use my Epson 1290 printer and the operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium. Am getting terrible prints, much darker than on screen and with a colour cast. It is very disappointing despite having bespoke ICC profiles for the papers I am using. Tried to reinstall the printer disc and it says 'The version of the file is not compatible with the version of Windows you are running' I know the paper profiles are in Windows so if there is a compatibility issue, presumably the profiles are not being accessed when the printer is printing.
Does this mean that the 1290 is no longer compatible and that Santa will have to come early. Any suggestions for a A3 printer. Would like to stay with Epson. Sorry for being so long winded. :bang::bonk:

Mark easier said than done. Another chat site says there are no drivers for Vista for this printer. Went to epson.so.uk myself but couldnt see where to download drivers from.:bang::bonk:

Merv

The supplied driver works with 32bit windows only,I dont think Epson did a 64bit driver for the 1290. I'm using 32bit Windows 7 on my other machine & the 1290 driver installed & is working fine, If you are on 64bit Vista you just have to use the Microsoft driver which to be honest gives a lot less printing control.

Yes Mark, still have disc. Toonie, spent 1/2 hr on line with Vista today and ended up getting the Windows drivers as you say. Also tried nozzle cleaning but prints still c--p. Brownish colour cast about them and too dark. Maybe new printer time. What do you think of the R1400 - see mixed reviews. Also asked about profiles for Epson papers. Don't have any. Can't believe it.:bang::bonk:

Are you turning OFF the printer management?
Have you Prof it in Photoshop to see what it might look like printed
Also Remember the screen is a light shining and paper is reflected light dependent on the light falling on it.
This is one of the biggest problems I have in teaching Photoshop and how to get it right

I dont think that it would be anything to do with the printer itself...if you have done a print test and it shows ok ... Its like chaz says it down to printer management ,I have my printer calibrated with the eyeone and I use the epson r1800 with no problem ... prints are the same as screen...

Yes Chaz. photoshop determines colours and colour management is turned off. Mark, I got the Eyeone and calibrated the monitor this week and I am using custom profiles for the epson paper. Everything worked fine with the previous XP computer. What printer would you recommend if I decide to change. Dont want to to the R2400 if I dont have to:bang::bonk:

When you say colour managment is turnd off aare you going to teh advance tab as well and turning it off there as well it can be missed.

Yes Chaz
It is under the advanced tab that I am turning it off. In the other colour management window I click 'Let photoshop determine colours' - Isnt that correct?:bonk::bang:
