Hi Folks,

I have recently bought an epl5 and was wondering what type of flashgun i should be using or even if there are any decent ones out there. I am also wondering if you can use wireless triggers with these like you can. By this i mean and retain full control like ttl. I am just away to read up on this as i know nothing about micro 4/3rd flashes especially when used off camera. I am wondering whether i would be better with rf602's and use yongnuo speedlights if thats possible.

I cant speak for TTL flash guns but my wife uses her EPL1 with my RF602 triggers and lencarta studio head so it should be the same with manual guns.

Great. That was going to be my next question. I was reading that you had to connect studio lights with a safety hotshoe thing but I think that's only if they're connected via a cable.

Yes, which isn't very common nowadays.

Modern triggers are just as good if not better than cables.

As far flashgun recommendations, it depends on whether you want TTL and/or ETTL. I quite like the Olympus FL600R. It's expensive and not all that powerful but a good size for smaller cameras.

I also have some Yongnuo guns for when I need more power or more lights and don't need TTL. Much cheaper and more powerful but unbalanced on the E-M5 body.

I should have read your first post properly.. the easiest way to do off camera TTL on the E-M5 is with the little commander flash supplied with it and something like the FL600R or (I think) the FL50. I imagine the EPL5 is similar. I'm not aware of any triggers which do TTL for Olympus.
