Well......my parents were looking for a compact that had great image quality, similar to my LX-3.....after circling around the Canon sx210 IS, S90, Sony HX5, Lumix TZ10, Canon G11....I finally got them to look at the Pen, as my mum wanted something bigger then the compacts on market today, which ruled out the S90 straight away......

So she finally bought it today....very nice i must say....and she seems happy, except fact doesn't have flash....my bad, didn't tell her that.....ive explained shouldn't be an issue due to excellent ISO and Noise performance.....anyway, i'm looking to buy them a pancake lens to help with the lack of flash, so looking at the Panasonic 20mm F1.7, as the Olympus F2.8 just seems a waste, but noticed Samsung's 30mm F2, that has good reviews, and much cheaper.....does anyone know if the new NX lenses will fit the EP-1 without an adapter, as they are Micro 4/3's?

NX lens will not fit on m43 mount, they are different systems. It would be like trying to put a Canon lens on a Nikon body.

The Panny 20mm is a very good lens and the one most people get.

cool, thanx for clearing it up, as it was a Micro 4/3's assumed they all mounted on each other, but must just be a Panasonic and Olympus thing......probably why the Samsung lenses are so much cheaper

The Samsung is not micro 4/3rds. It's a totally different system (called NX). The panasonic is the one to go for of the primes.

ahhhh thanx for clearing that up.....read somewhere on write up that it was 4/3's.....will try and find a good price, £290 is quite pricey as they wont get full use out of it

Yeah.....was thinking more body image stabliser, and it's sooo pretty!!!
plus got a good deal on it, just not used to thinking about a flash, too used to a 1D and a 50mm F1.4.

May not be too late to swap it for a GF1......is it worth the price difference? Only about £50 but is a bulkier camera and lens, the E-P1 and 14-42 fits nicely into her bag...the GF1 14-45 is longer

Dunno really - they're both very good cameras. Think the GF1 has a flash, a better screen and faster AF, but the EP1 is a bit better at High ISOs and produces better jpegs.

The 14-45 isn't collapsible like the Oly zoom, but it's meant to be a better lens I think.

Seen some reports in a review that the olly 14-42 produces a bit of blur due to vibration....but I haven't noticed anything on the images taken so far......the firmware update is meant to address it a bit, and slightly speed up the AF. The built in flash seems to be a bit of an issue for her, but the GF1's is meant to be quite weak, so not sure gaining much, as well as the E-P1 having a better dynamic range.......can the companies just not make a camera that does it all????? Glad i've stuck to SLR's for the last 4 years, can just buy what i want

New firmware is being released next week specifically to address AF speed, so the gap should be closing on that account. I've never been bothered about flash on any cameras I've owned but its a personal thing I guess.

Your right about the 14-45mm, for a kit lens it's supposed to be very good, I have the Oly 14-42mm but never use it. Much prefer the 20mm.

Have to say I don't use the flash much - don't know about it being weak though, I always seem to have to turn the power down on it.

Not heard about the EP1 having better dynamic range before.

Sure i read it as one the features that Olympus released for the Pen, and was in the same review that compared the GF1 and E-P1. All down to personal opinion really. Hard to explain the benefits of a F1.7 lens over a F3.5-5.6, all they seem to think is it's a fixed not a zoom, so can't be any benefit

bought from jessops.......so its whether they would allow her to have the money back, or say she has to swap it for something else in store......

If Jessops have Olympus e-pl1 in stock it might be worth a consideration;)

They have yes, already have had a thought......it's just not as nice i don't think....and slightly lower spec, guy in london camera had told me there were complaints about the build quality of E-PL1.....think final decision will be made tonight...is toss up between sticking with E-P1, E-PL1 and GF1

Didn't you get the free flashgun that Olympus were giving away with the Pen, or has that offer finished now?
