Yes
I am trying to update to update the firmware to 1.08 and getting stuck - as a result of stupidity I expect.

I have downloaded the firmware to my Mac. I have formatted a new CF card and attached camera to Mac as specified and switched on. The instructions then say:

"Start EOS Utility.

Click the [Camera settings / Remote shooting] button.

Click [], and then click the [Firmware Ver. X.X.X]."

But....HOW do I start the EOS utility? And by Camera Settings / remote shooting button, do they mean the one in the middle of the scroll wheel on the back. if I press this nothing happens.

The rear screen just stays black and the top screen shows "busy".

Can anyone add an idiots guide for me please?

Thanks.

Please ignore. I have solved it. I did not realise I was supposed to use the Canon software in the Mac - silly me!

I've never flashed mine via my computer, I would guess it's using some program?

I copy the firmware onto a CF card, insert the card in the 40D (not connected to anything), check the batteries are charged, goto the menu system, 7th menu to the right (a spanner with three dots), select the Firmware Ver. 1.0.x and follow the prompts.

When all else fails look at the pictures  Thats what I did yesterday as I was getting a little confused too ... it was my first time, that's my excuse :$.

this is for windows but probably similar on mac
double click the upgrade you will get a extract to popup
extract this to a formated card (format it using the camera)
make sure your battery is fully charged
now insert the card in the camera and turn the camera on
press the menu button
scroll along to the 1st spanner from the right
Now scroll down to firmware ver.
press set
A screen will appear that gives the current version and asking whether to update and a cancel and ok button
Scroll to the ok button and press set
at the next screen you will be given the new firmware version press set
then a screen giving a cancel or ok button scroll to ok
you then get the updating screen
dont turn your camera off whilst its doing the update
then click ok when its finished

All done
