EOS 80D Question..am I being stupid?

Can anyone explain how the 'eyepiece shutter' that is on the strap that comes with the 80D is supposed to fix to the eyepiece?
It seems too small in all dimensions to slide on to the eyepiece......
 
Just dont come back to us asking why the VF is black when you look through it :)

Ive never used one of these things. I understand why they supply them but just never needed to.
Only really any use when leaving the camera for a long period while it takes a time lapse vid...it apparently prevents any light leakage from the vf
 
I've used mine whilst calibrating my lens using Reikan Focal Pro.
 
I don't use the Canon strap so I'm actually not sure where to keep mine...it's currently loose in the bag - will get lost, I'm sure.
 
i just put a black glove over the eyepiece.:)
