Hi guys,

It was my birthday yesterday and I treated myself to a new 7D, it should be here tomorrow.

I need a CF card for it now though, and with memory cards I always tend to go for speed over size so my question is how many RAW flies at max quality etc will an 8gb CF card hold? I appreciate that a whole host of things effect file size so a ballpark figure will be great.

Thanks everyone

Well I get around 400 on a 16Gb card shooting RAW and JPG together, avg. image size is around 23Mb in RAW. Hope that's some help.

Thanks Paul,

I won't be going for anything smaller than 16gb then.

Hi Paul
Well yesterday I filled an 8gb card on full size raw 601 shots in total that was on my 7d

Thanks Les, That was shooting just RAW? (or only saving the RAW files on the CF card) because if so 601 isn't too bad for an 8gb card.

Taking photos of the moon, so mostly plain black background, my RAW files are still 18MB each, my average is around 24MB, but occasionally they peak at 35MB.

All depends on what you are shooting...

Cheers Dave

I'm looking forward to getting my hands on my 7D. While the 1000D has served it's purpose as something to learn with I'm looking forward to getting to grips with something a bit more powerful than 1 (usable in most circumstances) AF point and 1 fps shooting speed.

Thanks Les,

Just my rough mathematics told me I would be looking at around 20mb per RAW file so that's about what I'd expect. Most of my shooting is of sports so the higher ISO will probably up them to around 30mb each.

As I said I think I'll be going for at least 16gb, more likely 32.

I got around 650 shots on a 16GB card last week, ended up with nearly 1300 shots to sift through, so don't get too trigger happy. :D

As said the subject you shoot will determine the number of shot you'll get. On my 1D IV when I put a blank 16GB card in it says 544 RAW shot available, but 99.9% of the time I get way over 600 and up to 700 or more.

Price of cards nowadays I not get anything less than 16GB.
