Amazeballs :lol: full frame, light weight (nice solid plastic imo) and the Wi-Fi function is very useful at times. I put my camera and lens in the fridge once to try to get a shot of "hand pulling a beer out" and used the Wi-Fi and android app to frame and take the shot :p

The Wifi remote function is such a great feature to have, you can literally control everything from your phone! Works really well for me in the field with birds as when they move back or forth I can just tap to change the focus which is game changing compared to the other normal hotshoe remote triggers as you can actually see with the 6D what you are getting in the frame aswell.

It's not plastic, it's mag alloy, the only plastic bit is the top plate and that's so the wi fi signal can get out :)
 
I am looking to purchase my first full frame camera over the next few months. My choice has been whittled down to either a 5d2 or 6d. What do people who have owned both think regarding high ISO performance of both bodies. Thanks in advance

6D is far better in near all ways than the 5D2, ISO is leap years ahead on the 6D than the 5D Mark II.

Ordered a 6D today, looking forward to it! Already had a 5D (Classic), 50mm 1.4 and 135mm f2 arrive, fun times.

agreed, some tests suggest that the 6D has slightly better ISO performance in low light over the 5d3 as well due to the slightly lower megapixel count, so each pixel is bigger :)

there is one thing I wish the 6D had - dual card slots... :(

It does have better low light, high ISO and low light focusing than the 5d3.

It stands as Canon's best sensor at present.
 
Is the 6d really better than a 550d for image quality . Would I really notice difference between them both with a decent prime lens on the end ?
 
dont have experience with a 550D, but I had my 500D and my 6D to hand just now, here's a quick side by side for you ;) both shot with ISO800 so nothing huge for the crop sensor, 1/160, f4, sigma 35mm 1.4 art, composed to be roughly the same size. I didn't have anything else to show small details than a fluffy car cleaning glove and a sock ok? :P :D

click for full res photos, if you zoomed in you can see the details on the sock/fluffy car cleaner thing are sharper and noise free on the 6D, compared to mushier and some colour noise from the 500D.

Well I've gone and done it.

My 6D is now ordered to go alongside the 5D3. I was really drawn in by the slightly more compact body and the wireless and remote shooting functions.
 
I'm determined to wait until Christmas to order my 6d, reading this thread does not help my self control.
 
Well, if you can wait till Christmas you are in for one hell of a gift! The 6D is magnificent in my opinion, I am fairly new to photography, but the 6D makes taking decent pictures fairly simple. I need simple. Lol

I'm exactly in the same place but decided to sell all my 70d + lenses which apart from the 100-400 are all for cropped sensor. Anyway i'm skint so until it's all sold i can't by one!

I just bought a lumix lx100 to fil the gap while selling the rest and just received it yesterday.

I've got a 400D, but my go to lens is my 24-105 L. Wouldn't get much for the 400D second hand and it'll probably be nice to have a second body. It was also my first SLR so I'd kinda like to keep it.

Thinking about getting a 50 mm prime for the 6D when I eventually get it.
 
First outing with the 6D yesterday - absolutely love it. Handles so well for me, shutter sound is cool (lol), and the quality looks superb.

Only downside at the moment is the size of the RAW files, some are over 30MB!!! Any way round this? I'm not great at processing JPEG's.

File sizes do increase with the amount of detail in the shot and also as the ISO goes up.

That said, you can't really do a whole lot to change that short of setting the file output to a smaller size. The camera should be able to output in mRAW which saves the files at a lower megapixel count. Great if you are confident you won't need to crop, but still with lower megapixels you are lowering detail. Personally I would just buy bigger cards and accept that better quality comes as a cost of bigger files :)
 
Glad you're liking the change @^Joe. With regards to file size, what's the issue? Computer processing or storage? Storage is cheap these days. It may be time for a computer upgrade if it's killing it. Jpegs are all well and good, but for me RAW makes up for a lot of my short comings so it's a must for me. :D
