Eos 6d Owners Thread!

I cant really comment on the focus system for the outer points, but it is accurate, fast and quite sharp

I'm just wondering if any of you guys have shot a wedding on a 6D before? I currently have a 5D MK III and a 7D... I use the 5D as the main body and have my 70-200mm f/2.8 stuck on the 7D... however in dark churches I find the ISO sucks and I'm loath to reach for it sometimes, and as a result think I'll replace it with a 6D.

I'd love to know how it performs in churches though with fairly low light. I don't centre point and recompose, and always use the nearest focal point even if it's an outer one, so how it performs with these outer points in low light is really important. Anyone had any issues using them?

Hi Andy...quick reply...ISO handling across the board is excellent...especially compared to the 7D!! I've been more than happy to push my 6D up in churches...the only issue i'm having with it is the focal point expansion which isnt brill....its very basic, think slightly better than 5Dii....its no where near as expansive as the 7D.

I'm loving mine at the minute...cant seem to put it down...i'm leaning towards changing lenses on the 6D just to avoid using the 7D in low light!

I'll dig through some pics for you soon.

Dan

Hi Andy, for churches, I use the outer points if the couple are at the alter or somewhere where they'll be stationary. I can lock focus really fast using any focus point in a church with very little light.

I just don't trust it to track. Not tried much but, having a mark 3 I don't have to.

Like you, my work partner never uses her 7D in a church due to frustrations on getting focus lock.

One of the issues i have is the technique for changing focus - the dial/ pad on the 6D is very different to the 7d's little joy stick...my thumb often ends up in the wrong place! (i'm sure you can personlise this in some way).

Tbh I never use the joy stick anyway, I always use the 2 dials / wheels as I find it much quicker :)

does anyone know what wired remote the 6d uses, I have a RS-60E3, is it compatible?

Good question... ive kept my one from my 600d... not tried it yet though... should still work though

I'm afraid you'll have to get the RS-80N3, I was in the same situation when I went from the 550d to the 6d .... Not cheap this hobby :( , mind you I went the whole hog and got the TC-80N3 ....lol

Yeah but sometimes you just need a wired remote. Well saying that I won't know until I buy a 6d, which will hopefully happen in the next couple of months.

1 more month of cashback left but it will probably drop in price afterwards anyway but I tried the remote app today and I take back what I said, get a wired one, it could do with a few updates before it works well enough to be a replacement

You can ignore the cashback offer then haha, I might be getting a 50mm 1.2 from them soon, I saw somewhere they price match HK prices? Don't suppose you know if it's true?

Sorry I don't know but from my investigations they are the cheapest for 6d body only out the HK sellers I've found so far.

No worries, I thought I'd could save my self a phone call! Cheers and good luck with getting one :)

I'm tempted with a wired one...as was taking some self portraits of me and the family and when I needed it, I couldn't get it to connect! Tried as an ad hoc network and through my router!

HDEW dispatched my order yesterday so I'm guessing it'll arrive today. Shame I'm not in the house!

Looking forward to collecting it from the depot tomorrow though hopfully so I can have a play around with it before the wedding I have on Sunday. Can't imagine it's that much different to my 7D and 5D MK III though in terms of where everything is?

I have a 7D and it took me very little time to get used to the controls of the 6D, one of the main differences being reviewing images. Feels great in the hand as well. On the 7D I always use centre point focus and same on 6D so nothing different there.

I'm so close to buying one of these I can almost taste it. So to keep me entertained can you folks that own one sum up the best and the worst thing about the 6d. You are only allowed one bet and one worst point :D

Best: High ISO performance.
Worst: Haven't found anything I don't like yet, although I probably prefer the wheel and joystick of the 7D to the 6D's alternative control.

Ahh yeah I had issues with reviewing images when I got the 5D. Is it the magnifying glass button and then the right shoulder wheel to zoom in on the 6D?

I don't use centre point and recompose but selecting the outer points seems fairly standard on all the Canon's I've had so far

Best point: Low light performance (AF/Noise)
Worst point: The Wi-Fi feature is far from as user friendly as it could be, but that's it.

Yeah, the GPS implementation is a bit annoying as well - it needs better power management. It should turn off completely when the camera has been off for a few minutes rather then constantly drawing power till the battery goes flat.

Other than that - fantastic.

Get a battery grip and another battery :D

After market batteries arent very good at the moment.. they dont register :(

I would be coming from a 60d so the controls are almost identical I think

Is that battery supposedly a coded one? Or even a duff one!?

I bought this one from Amazon...used it several times now and don't really notice any difference from the original! Shows the battery status and charges in the original charger!

Surely you could just open the box and touch it.

Haha no it's going to mean removing all the outer packaging and those weird polystyrene quaver looking things which will go everywhere, and then I'll have to repackage it all so that when I walk the 5 minutes to my car later the camera doesn't fall out on to the floor.

I am very accident prone so leaving it as it is until I get home is the best idea

Managed to have a little play around with the camera when I got home... my god it's small and light! I think it must way about 50% less than my 5D MK III & 7D! Bit of a problem actually as with the 70-200mm lens I plan on using it with it ends up quite unbalanced.

Anyway stuck my 50mm f/1.4 prime on and took a few shots of the dog to test it out... I'm liking what I see!
