Hi all, I am considering purchasing the Canon EOS 60d. I currently have the Olympus E-620, which I am in the process of selling.

What are peoples views on this camera?

Welcome:)

My view is, it's of no use to me- 7D minimum;)

It might help to state what you are looking for from a camera- there's not much between any of todays cameras/systems really for the majority and if you like the handling of one you wont go far wrong unless you have specific requirements.

Plenty of threads with good info- have a search:

It is a very open ended question to say the least!

I have one, and my opinion is that it is a good all-round camera.

However if you want ultimate picture quality then you want to go for a FF camera, and if you shoot sports then a 1D or 7D series camera.

If you shoot sports/action a lot then 7D would be good for you.

I think if I were to sum the 60D up I would say its a good compromise of a bit of everything. Its not a king of anything either though - but thats why its a good consumer model!!!

Well worth checking out the 600D as well - lots of new tech in a slightly smaller and cheaper body :)

That is if you are convinced you want a nasty smelly Canon and are happy to ignore the magnificent and significantly superior Nikon range :D

I agree the 600D is well worth a look at, it is circa £200 cheaper than the 60D which is a fair chunk towards a lens or an upgrade on a kit/standard lens at least. Quality glass will make its difference know more between these two bodies rather than there spec.

Then there is the Nikon D7000 if you have no Canon lenses it is really nice but still a Nikon so you will need to look at what both companies offer in lens choice. It is also a little more £.

The 7D is fantastic but a lot more money if you can afford it go for it and the 15-85mm gets my vote as well.

I have both the 60D and 7D. The 60D's my spare body and image quality wise is excellent, however I do prefer the handling of the 7D, especially with a battery grip. The 60D has excellent image quality, but details like the smaller viewfinder, fiddly control wheel on the back and slower AF mean that the 7D may be worth the extra if you can stretch to it. The 7D also feels more responsive.

Having said that, in isolation the 60D is still an awesome camera and has the advantage of the flip out screen.

I like cameras to be light and compact and big and heavy for the sake of it doesn't interest me, nor does the silly magnesium fetish.

I'd be more interested in the xxxD range but for one thing... the max shutter speed is 1/4000 whereas you get 1/8000 from the xxD and xD bodies and that does matter if you use wide apertures in good light as if you do it's easy to exceed 1/4000 sec.

For that reason alone I'd choose the 60D over the xxxD and I'd deffo choose the 60D over a 7D for the articulated screen alone.
