Can anyone tell me how much if any truth that canon are to release the eos 60d in October this year and what effect it will have on 2nd hand 50d and the 40d I was thinking of getting a 40d but if the prices are going to fall because of the 60d then I will wait a while longer

Last year when the world was awash with cash Canon implied the release cycle for the xxD series was moving to a 12 month basis. The 50D was positioned above the 40D, and come replacement, the 60D would sit where the 50D sits, and it would drop down to the 40D position, and the 40D would be pensioned off.

Whether this is still the case is unknown.

The next big release will be the 1D4 which as someone tells me there is a football competition next year, it is a possibility it will be launched in good time for that.

The Northlight Images rumour site has a date of 24th August for announcement of something, although this is merely rumour and conjecture.

yess is true about the 60D but if you wait for october you will chnage your mind and will wait in december for the 6000D and go on... see the point? the 50 quids you save you will loss in knowlegment and practice

Remember that rumours are just that Rumours. Also maybe the next camera may not be as good as the one it preceded, has been known.

Don't forget the biggest depreciation on a camera is not a new model but just walking out through the shop door.

I've heard that it's going to 22Mpx, ISO 6800 (Without extended), and will do 6.9fps.

I also hear that it'll have 740p video, and will come with a free wheelbarrow...

I'd heard from my dogs Vet that it would have built in 8-stop IS and a mount that was compatible with Nikor / Pentax / Sony lenses :)

I'd say that's a pretty reliable source. I heard you could update your facebook status from it

It's going to be available in both diesel and 2.0l turbo petrol versions too. Three and four bedroomed versions will be released simultaneously, with and without sunroof. Prices of the 50D will plummet, because the 60D will be 10 better. The 40D will have another sensor stuffed in the back of it and will be renamed the 80D (40D x 2 - clever marketing). It will therefore be 20 better than the 60D and a whopping 30 better than the 50D and will be the world's first stereo dSLR, able to shoot in hologram mode. Rumour has it a collaboration with Maglite will result in enhanced low light ability due to SATTI technology (strap a torch to it)

All the above is true, a bloke down the pub told me. If was the same bloke I swapped my 50D for some magic beans with so he knows his cameras, oh yes.

The prices naturally should fall a little... If you could use a camera productively in the mean time you could make some £££

I hope that answers your question.

I heard it was a fish

actually read about this
15.1 megapixels, ISO 100-25600,7 fps, Digic V
Movie-mode: 1080p with 30 and 24fps
Incl. GPS for geo-tagging
SD-card slot (no CF)
148x109x75mm @ 738g

the MP would seem about right, GPS, okay...1080p???...7 fps, little change but SD card slot?? would that make sense? I thought SD read/write speeds weren't a patch on CF

I hope that's right actually, because if it is I'll be keeping my money in my pocket. ;)

I'm sure Canon already has a 60D ready and waiting. The 70D will also be quite well advanced.

Canon will release the 60D when they feel the market conditions are right, and that depends on how the 50D is selling, how their other models are selling, which depends on what rival manufacturers are doing, the consumer economy, and the price of fish.

So any time between now and some time in the future. Talk of 18 month product cycles is mythical. The fact that things have changed in about this time frame in the past is just coincidence.

Personally, i think it will be a blockbuster when it comes. And the 1D4 will be too. Canon needs to reassert itself as the dominant market leader, in innovation and technology as well as pure sales volumes.

It also has puddle valve ,plus a fu fu switch to improve low light performance ,if not.... money back guarantee :D

I already heard it can play mp3's

Come on Canon, release some information!!!

Its basically saying what has been said it post 12. For some reason I cant copy and paste the translation and I cant be bothered to type it all out again.

Canon are probably waiting for nikon to release their next model so they can make sure the 60D is slightly better and release it a month later or something

That's not going to get anybody excited is it. Even I could do a better photoshop fake than that.

FWIW, I think Canon will change the styling of the 60D, if only to indicate that it is substantially different from the 20/30/40/50D, which I believe it will be (based on nothing but hope BTW :D ).

...

and will be the world's first stereo dSLR, able to shoot in hologram mode.

It wouldn't be the first.

But, it would probably be the first affordable one. Can't wait.

You obviously weren't paying attention to the telly the other day... a certain tennis tourny had a lot of cameras with big white lenses that seemed to have some kinda black tape over anything but the Canon logos...

Obviously NDA's will mean that nobody will tell you anything though

Yep. I also have it reliably that it will be a new consumer full frame model.

Full frame - all you need to do is load a new plastic replaceable cartridge into the back every 36-or-so images. Once you get used to loading this cassette, then it becomes fast, almost second nature.
