Thinking about buying a 5d . Is it true that the kit lens off my 20d wont fit. Also i have The canon 100-400is L and a sigma 300 2.8 prime and a sigma 70-200 2.8 are these lenses compatible
 
The kit lens won't fit but the other two would be fine. The kit lens could be made to fit but why would anyone want to?
 
Any Canon EF mount will work, either Canon or 3rd party. The only lenses that will not fit are the EF-s fit lenses and i suspect the kit lens you refer to is the EF-s 18-55mm?

Personally; solid feel, comfortable to hold, BIG bright viewfinder, quality shutter release, very, very low noise pictures, 12.8mp and beautiful resolution...... want more? ;)
 
I shoot a lot of landscape so getting the full effect of my 17-40 from the full frame sensor was a real benefit (like getting a new lens)

The full frame sensor meaning bigger pixels tells in the end image it just appears to give more dynamic range than what I was used to (20D as well as great saturation, contrast and especially the lack of noise. The camera is fantastic at high ISO levels I recently did a shoot at 1600/3200 and the output was amazing.

Other smaller gains :- Shooting portraits etc allows you an element of being able to crop heavily if required and still having 8M pixels left to print with.

Size and feel of the camera itself. Ok its not made for throwing around in the back of a jeep if your into Professional outdoor photography.

Price ....................

Did I mention the image quality ?? :love:
 
I love my 5D, it's just nice and chunky but not too chunky to be discrete, takes amazing pics in low light, resolution is good enough for pretty heavy crops and had pretty much every function or setting i need :)

Also there's always a replacement around the corner, even when a replacement comes out the 5D will still be just as good as it's always been :)

There's always the EF-S 10-22. I just can't see it being that much better than the 20D?

Now give me a 1dMkII N and I'd bite your hands off. The autofocus system on that camera is amazing!
 
Last year my wife's car was featured in a magazine photoshoot, done outdoors. There were two staff togs, one had an EOS 1DS Mk2 the other had a 5D with a 20D as a back up. He was part time and considered the saving in £££s well worth it as the camera produced great results. My point is it is used by pro's as well, which must be quite an accolade.
 
There's no doubt it's a top quality camera. I'm not trying to say that at all. But if I'm spending top cash for a camera I'd rather have one that is faster, weather sealed and just more professionally rounded. The AF system alone is one hell of a difference.

I suppose it depends on what you shoot and how you use the camera.
 
I have two Mark II N's and had a 5D for about three months.

They are both amazing cameras and I hope to buy another 5D this year.

Horses for courses but if I had to give it all up and keep one camera to play with everyday/weekend......

Well, that would be the 5D.

Image wise, nothing can touch it but it does not cut the mustard in what I get paid for....3 fps is to slow for Pro Rugby. It has the best high ISO I have ever seen.

Well Pete that's a mighty recommendation from someone with a lot more experience than me. Think I'll wait for the 6D :)
