Would a kind person care to check their instruction book for me (mine seems to have gone walkabout).
My daughter bought me a Canon RC-5 remote control. She checked in the shop that it was compatible with my 50D and the instructions with the remote say "set the camera to receive remote control".
I've hunted high and low for my camera manual and also tried (unsucessfully) to download a PDF manual from Canon.
Will some kind person please look in their manual and tell me how to get my camera to work with this remote.
At the moment my daughter thinks that I don't really like the birthday present she bought me.

I've a sneaky feeling the RC5 isn't comaptible. I'm hunting for my manual now. It works with the 400D, as the 10sec timer mode doubles as remote.

Just had a quick look.... gives a diagram of how to plug it in then says 'to operate the accessory refer to it's user manual'

doesn't really help you! sorry!

page 105 for anyone else

Thanks Peach and Rob. I have a plug in remote which works fine but the RC-5 is a radio type, or infared or suchlike. Looking on the sites for RC-5 they all quote 50D as compatible, and the camera shop told her specifically that it would work on my camera.

Ohhhhh!! well what's the little round window thing on the front below the shutter button for then?

Big thread on Flickr about this, it appears you want an LC-5, not an RC-5.

Looking on the canon site and I can't even find reference to 50D in the RC FAQ's :(

Many thanks for your help and research Rob. Somehow I think I will stick with my cable release and gently break it to my daughter that the nasty man in the shop was telling fibs!

Rob, that flikr site in your sig, ratsnruins, is that your webite? I tried clicking but it suggested that i might have meant Rats Brains.
