EOS 1 or 1N? ....or maybe 3 now!

Now the OM is going I need to make a choice on the replacement so I could do with some more advice please.

The choices are EOS 1 or 1N.

I want it to be weather sealed which both are and have fast acurate auto focus, which again i belive they both do.

The EOS 1's are cheaper than the N's. I've seen them for £70-100 and the N's for £120-150.

I would also be investing in a nifty so an EOS 1 would be aprox £140 inc lens and a 1N would be aprox £200 inc lens. I'm hoping to keep the costs right down so I'm not spending much more than I got for the OM kit.

Is the 1N/3 such a major increase in quailty/performance thats worth the extra? I can find lots of info on the 1N but not the 1.

So, 1N or just plain all 1?
 
The EOS 1 only has a single AF point, while the EOS 1n has 5 AF points in a row across the screen if I remember correctly.

I think the EOS 3 is a better bet with 45 AF points in an elipse, and is a later model. It's a very well spec'd camera. It's actually better weather sealed than any other Canon body than a 1 Series, so the quality of sealing is high.

The only niggle for me is it doesn't have eyesight dioptre correction in the viewfinder, but you get eye control focusing as an option and it actually works.

As far as auto focus points go I'm not to sure if I'm to fussed about 45 points, I tend to use the centre spot most of the time on my 30D.

How about the exposure, I take it the later models are much better?

I also have an 420EZ flash that I would like to use.
 
You will not go far wrong with a EOS3, love mine to bits, built like a tank too!!!

The EOS 3 is noted for nailing the exposure time after time.

I'm pretty sure the 420EZ is OK with the EOS 3, but obviously it lacks TTL flash capability so you'd be using it in manual or auto mode.

You wont really go wrong with any of your body options, but owning an EOS 3 I can only tell you wild horses wouldn't drag it away from me. It's a beast of a camera and built like an outside brick toilet. ;) You should be able to pick one up well within your budget.

Ffordes usually have a few in stock.

Really want to keep the cost sensible as well, I know what I'm like I'll be spending loads before I know it.

I picked up an EOS 1n for £55 a few weeks ago. Gone though three rolls of film and still look at the back of the camera ever time I fire off a shot!

God thing with these is they tend to be more keen amateur usage rather than heavy professional and thats reflected in the condition you see them in - mine cost me £110 a few months back from MPB and i'm still to find ANY mark on it.
 
EOS 3 yep a very good camera

But I bought a EOS1n RS and coupled with USM lens (older ones) it works great.
 
Since reading this I dug out my 1n as not used for a few years now. Turned it on (after finding 8 batteries which I forgot it uses!) but seems to have developed a fault :'( Everytime I press the shutter I get a blinking "bc" which indicates a battery problem although they were all new batteries :thinking:

Good man - I don't think you'll regret the choice. :thumbs:

EOS 3 MANUAL

When you get it, the more often you run the eye control focusing calibration - the better it gets. It works pretty well for me - even when wearing specs.

If it hasn't been used for some time you have to suspect the contacts in the battery compartment. Have a look for any sign of corrosion. Give them a clean anyway if you can get at them.
 
First thing I tried but no different. I suppose I could stick it on ebay as "Spares or repair" but dont suppose its woth much. I seem to remember I had it serviced not long before I stopped using it too!
 
Thing is, now I've spent more than I thought I would I think the XA will have to go... want a nifty fifty to go with the EOS 3...
 
Right, ordered a nifty fifty 1.8 off kerso. Hopfully everything will get here for the weekend!

Sad thing is the XA will have to go now.... anyone wanting to have a go I'll put it on the for sales section soon to cover the £70 nifty!

Gona have to draw the line__________________________________________ no more camera purchases! Got a holiday to pay for!

everytime I bought a new camera I told myself it is the last one, then I waste my money on more useless things I don;t need the month after.:bonk:
