entry level dslr's how long did you keep yours

about 3yrs for my 350D
 
Only got my first DSLR about 6 months ago, a used 450d I might upgrade next year.
 
Bought a D70 with 18-70 lens when they first came out also have a D1X both of which get regular use still. Then again I still shoot with an F4 and F5 when the mood takes me.

Both still perform really well provided I am not shooting in a coal cellar. Both are worth b****r all to sell and I still get good results from them both. However as usual it's horse for courses and I have D3s and D700 for paying work.

I fancy a D800 but will hold off until any bugs are ironed out. :D

Had my D3100 for about 18 months now. Did consider upgrading to a D7000 but then a 17-55dx lens became available on here for reasonable money. Think that was probably a better buy than a body upgrade and have bought 70-300 and a 35mm prime since.

That said I'm still fancying.
 
Had my D60 since beginning of '09, which made it 45 months in total since I sold it recently. I definitely got my use out of it!
 
I had my D60 for 3 years before upgrading to a D7000. Imagine I'll be staying with that until it dies (so many, many long happy years together I hope) or I win the lottery and can afford to go full frame.
 
Had my 550D since last September, considering an upgrade to the 7D, so I can still use the glass I've bought. Would love to go for a 5D, but I can't afford to buy that and all the L glass that rightfully needs to go with it. Not yet anyway =]
 
Replaced the a300 with an a700 after about nine months. The a300 was only my first digital SLR, not my first SLR though.
 
I've still got my D40, and it still gets a fair bit of use from the rest of the family who somehow feel they're going to break the D7000 if they use it, and I'll also take it out with me sometimes when I want the smaller size, or it's somewhere where there's likely to be an issue with my "professional" camera.

I upgraded from the D80 to the D7000 not because I'd outgrown the D80 (it's a cracking camera that goes for peanuts these days, if anyone's after a DSLR on a tight budget), but because I got some inheritance money and I felt like spoiling myself.
 
I've had a Nikon D5100 for about 4 weeks and I keep looking at the D7000. I'm kind of regretting not buying the D7000 first and growing into it, but then I remind myself how awesome the D5100 is and that it was the right choice I made. I just seemed to have picked it all up pretty quickly and now I really want faster access to settings and the D7000 has those extra controls rather then going menu-diving.

So in answer to the original question, I still have my first entry level DSLR but that could all change in a matter of days.
 
only 6 month with D3100, just can't get on with the crop sensor.

then got the legendary 5D mark 2.

going to full frame is the main 1 of 2 reason I'd upgraded, the other is having 2 dials on the body. otherwise the D3100 is working fantastic. top screen is nice, but not necessary. more buttons are nice, but also not very necessary.
 
I kept my 450D for 3 years until I hit a snag where I needed faster frame rate during an air show and hence my move to 60D. This was the only reason I moved (of course I gained much more than that with the move).
 
I still have my D60 and D80, both bodies are in superb condition as I have looked after them both. Had them both for ages now and not planning to get rid of them, even when I do get another camera.
 
Started with canon 1000D as my first slr. Kept around just over a year before upgrading to the 7D. Havet looked back once!
 
had the 1000d canon for approx 18 months before demoting it to a 2nd body and purchasing a 650d which im unlikely to be getting rid of anytime soon....
 
Started out with 40D, upgraded to 5D after about 18 months and got a mk II 9 months later... Also picked up a 30D as a backup but honestly I could quite happily live with any one of those. I just like trying new gear.
 
Not sure if the D70 counts as entry level but at the time, it was the lowest specced Nikon DSLR, so I'm guessing it does. Well, I still own it, although I've recently lent it to a friend on a long term loan, along with a small selection of lenses. I kept it in preference to my interim D200 due to what I saw as poor high ISO performance, not a criticism that can be levelled at my current SLR, a D700! Can't remember exactly when I bought the D70 but it was just after the s variant was released, leaving the straight D70 with a £100 Nikon cashback and a shop backed £50 worth of printing, leaving the camera and 18-70 lens kit at £550 + bonuses.
 
Had my Nikon D3000 for about 18 months then switched to a D300 but after 6 months realised it was too much camera for me. Now got a D7000 which offers all I could ask of it. Just need to get out and use it.
 
I've still got and using my trusty EOS450D after over 4 years. I feel that I've outgrown it and could do with a higher FPS and better noise handling but I can only upgrade when finances and the wife allow!
 
Had my D80 for almost 4 years, still my first and only DSLR - become quite emotionally attached to it! Thinking of upgrading to D7000 in the new year, D80 will then be used as a 2nd body.
 
Had my D40 for around 2 years, then got myself a D90 after outgrowing the former.
 
Had my 400D (still have it actually, just took some pictures with it today...) for 5 years before succumbing to the temptation of a well priced 7D.
 
I kept my 10D for about 18 months before upgrading to the 20D.

OK, 10D didn't class as entry level at the time nor did the 20. But that is where my DSLR journey began!
 
Had a d40x for a only a couple of weeks. Borrowed a 50 1.4 from my brother and found it didnt work... Luckily the shop i bought it from allowed my to exchange for a d80 which i had for about 3 years, which was replaced about 2 year ago with my current d300s.

no idea what direction im going to go next though, no sign of a d300 replacement.... really have got used to the 100% one touch zoom and advanced bracketing
 
I kept my D5000 for a year before upgrading. I would still have it, but sold it to a friend who wanted an entry level camera for his new baby.

My d5000 lasted about a year as well. Super camera but the more you want to mess around the more frustrating the menu driven system becomes. I went to a D300 which should have lasted me for years but it actually lasted 3 months before I took the plunge into ff. None of it has improved my photography one iota but its nice to have cool toys!
 
Have had my D3100 since Feb 2011 and am thinking of upgrading to a D7000 early next year
 
I had my Canon 350D for about 2 years then got a used Nikon D80. Had that for a few years then got a D7000... and just got rid of that for a D800.

To be honest, I thought digital SLRs were a bit of a joke until I got the D7000. I only got that for 1080P if I'm honest. I always have, and still do shoot on film, but I only started using digital seriously when I got the D7000. The D800 is in another league again, and I'll probably relegate film to the studio now.
 
Never owned an entry level body. Bought a S/H 20D in 2008 until 2009 when I replaced it with a S/H 40D, I then replaced that with a S/H 5Dc earlier this year.

You could say I'm tight and behind the times, but I find glass to be a more important/fulfilling investment.
