I have just been checking PL scores on the BBC and came across this description of a goal

"Newcastle break from a United corner, Jose Enrique cutting the ball back to Jonas Gutierrez on the left. The Argentine's shot isn't the greatest but Edwin van *** Sar spills it into Peter Lovenkrands' path and he can't miss."

Not a Englishman in sight :(

Where have you been? The great thing about Scottish football is that we learned lessons from this a while back, now most teams in Scotland have majority of Scottish players, especially in the lower divisions. It's good for the national team... and we have great managers ;)

That's because the English are rubbish at football...

And the reason why after 40+ years I no longer give a stuff for top level football
and spend Saturday afternoons watching and togging my local amateur teams

Its a sad state of affairs gentleman. English football is in dire straits and its time to introduce the quota rule asap.

Who do you go and watch?
I go and watch Maidstone United every week, there is special about being that close to the players week in week out!

I had thought of supporting the local amateur team (Farsley Celtic) but you cant beat the moment you first climb the steps into the stadium with the pitch laid out before you and 30 thou fans chanting  Its a magical moment and sometimes the only highpoint of a match at Elland Road :D

You still get 30,000 at Elland Road? That's dedication for you.

Interestingly that same team-ManUTD-had more than half its League Cup winning team made up of home grown players and still managed to leave out Rooney.

AFC Wulfrunians in the West Midlands League and Old Wulfrunians in the Birmingham AFA so it dont get more grass roots than that but I get some shots I like and the players like to see them om the club website. In addition no rolling over in agony because somebody breathed on you
