Englands fastest speeders

I'd hand over 500EUR gladly to dibble if I thought it was a pass (ie.e no ticket etc) for 138mph in an 80 limit.
I wouldn't try this in france. They take away your licence

It was meant to be a bit of a giggle. I'd not bribe a french dibble.

I ran into a french dibble in a bar in Barcelona, got talking to the dude and he asked how the drive was down, I said good. My mate said, aye he hit 140, dibble said, not great, our limit is 130k. Mate says, no 140 miles. He asks what that is in k. My reply, about 225. He says thats jail and you lose the car. He asks why the speed. My reply, I was only in 6th gear, I had 7th still to go :D

Time for this from just the other day

well yes - but at least he only injured himself , not a family inocently minding their own business

If anyone wants to risk writing off their car and potentially themselves on a track or even an abandoned air feild please be my guest its a free country, but don't do it on a public highway where you are putting the lives and property of people who didnt chose to share the road with a nutcase at risk

Go on tell more. How much and how long

:p
It would be a lot easier if the ticket went away, thats all I am saying....minor offence, bribes fine innit

I thought everyone would see the funny site in what was a tounge in cheek post. Clearly not.
Well, lets see, when my cousin was stationed in Germany, a few years back,
apparently everyone carried a few Deutsche Mark in their driving licence for if / when
they were stopped for "traffic offences"
(Allegedly ;) )

The fine was four figures and the ban double digits in terms of months.
I'm more curious as to what your were driving TBH.

I'm still just astounded at the pride you seem to feel at driving like a bel lend.

Has anyone posted a link to this video......This has to be one of the worst cases of road racing I have seen.

Has me on the edge of my seat when I watch it....

IF just one of the other motorists did not act and make allowances for one of these reckless people it would have been curtains......

I enjoy a spirited drive like the next petrol head but this is criminal and should be punished with life bans imho
Racing is for the track!!

Total muppets.

Wonder if they are still with us......

I get the feeling that you are going to spend more of your life without a licence than with one!

Even without the excessive speed, that is dangerous driving.
Very poor positioning, overtakes with no where near enough visibility. 2 more road deaths stats waiting to happen.

That was pretty insane - the porsche driver was practically forcing oncoming traffic off the road in order to overtake on the single carriageway section.

A mercedes C220cdi. Nothing fancy. It doesn't take a very powerful car to hit 138mph. About 30-40 seconds full bore acceleration from 70mph will do it. 170bhp will give that sort of top speed in a standard sized car.

The E320cdi before it, that was a much nicer and better car when it didn't rust or breakdown.

OK Cool I was (secretly) hoping it was a 911 or something, "Exotic"

That has to be some of the scariest footage I've seen, that bit at about the 2 minute mark where the Porsche squeezed between a 106 and a saloon as it was coming off the island, how there wasn't a RTC right there I have no idea

That's my point, a boggo 4pot diesel estate is capable of massive speed. a V6 diesel saloon capable of speeds only available to Ferrari drivers 20-30 years ago. Time moves on, yet our limits and laws stagnate in the 70's.
Oh, you'll get no argument from me on that score ;)

Physics however remains a heartless bitch that still has a terrible effect on the fleshy mass that is no longer in control of vehicle when something goes wrong

Be it a 70s era merc or one fresh off the line if you hit something or someone at high speed your going to suffer some pretty serious life changing or even life ending injuries

Blimey, I didn't fancy some of those overtakes on the bike, never mind a car

I've just watched that video and, allowing for the camera distortion on a 35 ft wide road, I didn't see the Porsche driver get his lines or positioning very wrong at all! As I said earlier, I've known friends who could really make a car dance for them and while that bit of driving was imprudent - certainly since it was being filmed, number plate and all - it wasn't unskilled; I didn't see him have to get out of any of his overtakes.

The cars might have improved but people are still idiots.

around 2.40 he forces two oncoming cars on to the shoulder to avoid a head on ... that's not skilled driving on the part of the Porsche driver - in fact it shows a total lack of skill in spacial awareness - had the oncoming drivers not had fast reflexes there would have been an almighty crash and the porsche muppet would have gone the way of paul walker

and at 3.32 the biker nearly loses it pulling a wheelie - again demonstrating a lack of riding skill

That reply is exactly why speed limits shouldn't be raised.
His driving was appalling! The incident with the Pug? The forcing traffic towards to have to pull right over? Overtaking on blind bends? Left hand bend, being over the white line of his left, thus limited visibility round the bend? Should have been on the right side. On right handers, being in the wrong place too? You have proven my point, peoples idea of good driving is wide of the reality!

its always a really good idea to video yourself breaking the law and put it on youtube... with any luck the police have already seen this.

Every time you post, Bernie, I'm afraid you prove my point to my satisfaction. I watched the video quite carefully and stand by what I said - the driver of the Porsche was not unskilled and I did not see him make any mistakes! What speed was he doing by the way? Can you calculate accurately from that video? I'll agree it was considerably in excess of 70mph.

By the way, I still dine out a little story of some brilliant [illegal] driving I once witnessed. The last year I worked in motor racing was 1994 on the TOCA package; the year Volvo ran the 850 estate cars. Driving back from Thruxton, knackered after practice, I looked in the mirror of the van I was driving and said to the mechanic I was chauffeuring "What the eff is this!?". A car was coming up the A303 very fast. In the darkness I could see the headlight 'flash flash' and then overtake. And then again 'flash flash' overtake. One time it was 'flash flash' and pass on the left.

Past us came a top-spec Volvo estate car doing whatever it could do; about 130mph? Where the A303 joins the M3 he used the hard shoulder without slowing and disappeared off up the motorway. I couldn't see who was driving the Volvo, he was too short to be seen over the back of the driver's seat which makes me suspect it was a particular LeMans winner who's famous for having unparalleled car control to go with his familiarity of overtaking at 230mph! And it was impressive to observe his sublime skill. The car was balanced and under control.

By contrast I don't dine out on the Channel 4 newsreader, Sheena McDonald's story or the old days of Bristol's Avon and Somerset constabulary who used to use their blues and twos to cut across two lines of traffic and dive into the access road of the Bridewell Police Station and then switch off their lights because obviously that was far more skilled than having to join the queue to turn left!

As for other super-trained public sector drivers, I can only assume that the London Ambulance Service has as its policy that it gets its employees out on the streets touting for business!

not speed related - but its also a good idea to know how high your vehicle is

You can see what appears to be the speed in the motor bike speedo. Hard to spot, but it's there if you look, and it's certainly more than what the OP got a 20 month ban for.

I did not see him make any mistakes!

so you think its okay to overtake in to head on traffic forcing other drivers to swerve on to the shoulder ??? reckless yes , brave to the point of idiocy possibly , but skilled nuh huh - a skilled driver would know he couldn't get passed safely and wait for a clear road , not rely on luck and the skill of other drivers to miss him

The porsche driver is just a numskull who thinks he is in control. In my eyes he was lucky. I saw a back end slide that was no way meant given the way it snapped back into line and I saw him almost rear end another car at a roundabout. That isn't skill it's luck that he avoided an accident.
And the bike don't get of Scot free either. He goaded the porsche driver into a race. If he let him go it wouldn't have happened probably.

Yep. Speed never killed anyone. It's the sudden stop that makes things nasty! So wish I had a pic of the Rapide arse end on the Fosse way roundabout with some erm "dents"

I suspect they were together ... its not a coincidence that he happened to have his road hawk on.
