England football supporters again bring shame!

Not really I’m maybe not so good at explaining how I feel but I haven’t been happy for a while the direction this country is going in since the whole Brexit thing started and the racism is just another part of the same thing

Spot on Pete, very unpleasant atmosphere with all the flag waving and anti European rhetoric.

I'm personally tired of the whole debacle that is England and the FA, UEFA and FIFA. Too much money, too much corruption and too much incompetence. England has been spoilt for me for many years and I struggled to even enjoy this tournament. I was born '67 so this should have been a momentous occasion. It wasn't. The team did well, the manager coached to his very limits and because the team didn't embarrass us the fans made sure it was the same old story... along with the result. Really can't be bothered with it anymore.

Without doubt there's an unpleasant atmosphere, mostly surrounding people that bitch about just one flag, usually their own and conflate anti European with anti EU sentiment.

I think it's beyond that and much deeper. This country needs to go backwards before it will go forwards and I can't see that happening. PC was replaced with Woke. Both mean people from different cross sections of society can no longer communicate or express like or dislike. If you can't communicate you can no longer educate so you're stuck with what you've got and each of those sections of society will become more and more extreme.

I don't agree with Mr Jordan or you and can't see us ever winning anything with Southgate in charge. Said it when he was appointed (probably on TP somewhere) and haven't seen anything to make me change my mind.

Just found my comments after the WC semi final defeat

No I don't think Southgate will ever lead us to victory, but he deserves at least the next Euros to see how it goes
Kane is not the right choice for captain, we need someone to motivate and organise preferably at the back or midfield.

We are very average and had the luck of an exceptionally helpful draw, nearly came a cropper sitting at 1-0 vs Columbia, against a better team we did pay the price.
Thankfully we seem to have at last found a decent goalkeeper, badly need a creative midfielder and a reliable centre back pairing.

Worse thing for me was it was so obvious things needed changing after half time, their wide players had so much time and space and we were overrun in midfield.
Nothing happened and the situation just worsened, we played exactly the same with players replaced like for like.

Be interesting to revisit this and it's only 16 months to the World Cup Final. As you'll know we're in Group 1. So the next game is against Then Hungary -Sept. 2nd..( A) Poland. Sept 8th (A) Andorra- Sept 5th (H) Andorra Oct.9th (A) There's another three after that. Oct 12 Hungary again -(H) Albania Nov 12 (H) Nov 15. San Marino (A) In reality not a testing Group apart from Poland so I don't think we'll learn much in the way of progress Also, I'm sorry to have to inform you that they're all on ITV :)

Like the rest of nation, yourself included, we were all sitting there watching Mancinin make his changes wondering if Southgate was ever going to make a change and when he did..well, we know what happened and he almost left it too late.. Had Italy kept the ball in the last two minutes of extra time he'd have lost his chance to bring on Rashford and Sancho. With hindsight they probably wished he had run out of time :D He'd have had a better outcome, I'm sure had he left Henderson and Walker on..well, that's what I think. All water under the bridge now.

Might be hard to drop Kane. As soon as Jordan Henderson comes he commands. Might be a better option. However, he's 4 years older than Kane at 31.

As an aside, do you have a candidate you'd like to see take over and would he have to be British ?

So, Boris has said that people spouting racist abuse will be banned from football matches!

Big wow! Many of these people will not go so it really doesn't matter. Its a token gesture. The way forward is to make it as anti social as drink driving. Not only could you kill someone, you will not be able to drive for 3 years, have a big fine, possible prison and along with that the knock on effects like losing job, house, family etc... If typing out an offensive message could see you losing job/big fine, then surely that will help.

Also, I dont believe in punishing someone for the rest of their life for one, often drunken (no excuse) mistake - what sort of education will these people get. If they have this we could also fix the problem!

I think the anti-social element you would like to see may well have been kick-started with the response, up in Manchester after the defacing of mural of Marcus Rashford with racist graffiti. people travelled to Manchester to add support and leave a message so not just Mancunians.

This Irish lad,Patrick O'Brien (18) was fined 500 Euros for some nasty racial abuse directed at Ian Wright at the beginning of the year.

He was warned that he should be very thankful for the generous attitude of former England and Arsenal footballer Mr Wright as he avoided a criminal conviction for subjecting the star to a tirade of vile racist abuse over social media because of a PlayStation game defeat.

The Judge said.. While the abuse was clearly racist, reprehensible and utterly abhorrent he was satisfied they were not views held by the teen - but rather unthinking comments designed to cause hurt and passed in the heat of the moment by "a young, immature and naive" person' The Judge also noted the generous approach Mr Wright had taken to the matter - and that he had personally forgiven the defendant. The lad was fined 500 euros. He said the teen had engaged fully with the PWS, had expressed genuine remorse for his actions and, on his own volition, had donated his entire pocket money, some €500, to the Irish Network Against Racism.

Southgate made this mistake in 2018 - he made the same mistake the other day - so has not leaned from his mistake!
Well, that doesn't bode well, does it. It's a pity because we have the makings of a really good squad..

Brighton?!

I was a bit surpised to hear that myself. The man said been stewarding for a long time. Not much opportunity for trouble re the Covid restrictions but this is a February 18th 2019 report. I think Covid got going in the March.

I would like to see Jurgen Klinsmann given a chance. Always talks tactical sense, played and managed at the highest level and is well respected. Revitalised Germany when they were at thèir lowest ebb and think he could bring our good young players on.
Southgate is lacking that killer winning mentality, some sportsman have it and others never do.

Wasn't necessarily saying drop Kane, just appoint a different captain. Someone who could motivate the team and talk to those around him. Manager and captain seem very lacklustre at times, calm is ok, but sometimes a bit of emotion is needed.

Hmmmm! Brighton is very vocal at clamping down on anti-social behaviour so, ironically, the club attracts headlines.

But just 10 Brighton & Hove Albion supporters were arrested in the 2019-20 season (five for public disorder). Leeds, Birmingham and Bolton all had 45+ arrests.

No Brighton and Hove Albion supporters were arrested for racist or indecent chanting in 2019-20 - or any of the previous five seasons.

Reality is, the Amex is a tightly controlled environment. Can't even take in a flask these days!

As for the "war zone" story - I imagine this was repeated in cities across the country?

Klinsman was a studio guest with host Lineker along with Rio Ferd. and Alan Shearer for the those latter games and it was put to him had he any interest in the Spurs job and he said yes. As with many other fans I too would like to have seen him appointed..after all he coached the winning German team in the 1990 World Cup... but there's Levy at the helm whom many fans believe is the problem.

Re Kane..Yes, I appreciate you weren't suggesting he be replaced but replaced as captain. He is, as you say, lacklustre and he has a monotone voice which makes him sound a bit dreary. I wouldn't describe him as a motivator which a leader should be. I can imagine players at half-time listening to any tactical advice and encouragement he might offer, beyond that of the manager, might fall asleep. :D Having said that he gives upbeat interviews and comes across as a 'Steady Eddie'..or rather 'Steady 'arry' :)

Whilst there is a measure of that across society, it is forced upon them by one particular section, I guess they just can't do anything else.

Looking forward getting back to the good old days of ignorant racism and paying women less than men for doing the same job.
So much better back then when middle aged white men ruled the roost.
No wonder that section of society dislike what they call woke.

Football has always attracted the rent-a-mob types who were there for that aggro not the football
Now they have they can hide behind their keyboards to attack anyone that doesn't fit in with their
perceived view
