Greetings

My name is Col and am new to digital phoyography. In the past have made DIY enlargers and developed film with varying degrees of success.

Digital photography has a great deal of technology attached, which I am comfortable with and enjoy, so I am an avid searcher of tips etc.

Hopefully I can become as conversant with the camera as I am with a metal lathe or electronics so I look forward to some informative material.

Cheers

Welcome to the forums :)

'Engineer' caught my eye as sheet metal engineering and design is what I spent my working life doing. Being artistic with an engineers brain is not easy but is possible up to a point :)

Exactly the problem I find. I can see things from 2D to 3D but art has always defeated me but hopefully one can learn:bonk:

 Hi Col

I am also an engineer (Marine), you will be surprised at how arty you will get, you will start looking at things in a different way soon, read the rules on photography but dont forget these can be broken from time to time and you will strt looking at view and make photo out of them in your mind and asking how do i make this better.

Good luck m8 and will be watching out for your photo's

Being an engineer does have its plus points. All the technicalities of photography like shutter speed and aperture which some people struggle with should be pretty straightforward. :)

I'm still working on the artistic side of things. I was never arty at school, but over time I think it is possible to learn to see things as a complete image rather than a collection of individual objects. (Well at least I hope it is, otherwise I'm wasting my time.)

Also, digital photography gives you instant - and cheap - feedback, which allows a refinement process to be used rather than having to get it right first time.
