I am without a bike for the first time in 35 years and although I know it was the right thing to do, I feel bereft!

:arghh:

But is that of choice? I always had a bike for many years, lack of space was my reason :)

Ouch. I feel for you, Heather. :(

Is there nothing available that allows you to sit on it comfortably and light enough for you to keep up painlessly?

Could you not have had it converted to electric assist ?

No! :(

Arthritis has forced it upon me, and I am bloody miserable!

Not much fun Arthritis, especially when it impacts on your daily life. Hope you can find a way to continue biking in the future, if not an alternative to fill the void :)

Thanks, Nod but it has been a long time coming and having looked at options know that it is time!

...just the finality of it going yesterday...I delivered it to it's new home and will pay for that later, but it was worth it! :D

Only if I had stabilisers and a lot of work doing...not feasable really. :(

Got much worse over the last couple of years and have accepted that I have to make changes. Not quite ready for being an old fart yet, so will look for something new. (y)

Not a bike but many less able bikers go the three wheel route... I've always liked the Exile look!

Father in law gave up biking a few years ago. He's 73 now and had his lower left leg amputated about 10-12 years ago. He had either old/vintage bikes he restored as they had right side gear lever or had the newer bikes converted. He stopped when he could no longer kick start the old bikes if they stopped and the BMW he had was too heavy for him to support it (broke his wrist in a tumble at a petrol station). He too was quite depressed as he's been on motorbikes since being a teen. Well, after a couple of years he's now bought a scooter, a Suzuki Burgman I think (it's a powerful one anyway). and the smile is back on his face.

Hope you can find an outlet soon.

I would love another bike, but lack of space in a small flat says otherwise..Time to move to another place I think :)
