weekly Em's 52 for 2016 - Celebration added

Nicely interpreted and taken, with the leaf, Andrea (y)

The two tyres and the no parking sign I think are the best take on abandoned Andrea, not only does it fit the bill but its quite humorous too. Well spotted

Thanks for your lovely comments...Python and Elwood ;) Sorry...only teasing - a lot of names a lot of potential mess ups! :D

I like #1, strangely enough it has a cheerful feeling to it.

#3 is the one for me. Well spotted and humorous.

Cheers.

I like the leaf shot but I LOVE the tyres. The composition, positioning if the tyres and no parking sign and the vertical stripes make it a really striking image.

Hi, have to say i really like the tyres shot well spotted

Happy: that's a beauty. Says happy and contented loud and clear. The fire and exposed brick add to the feeling of warmth and homeliness

Abandoned: definitely tyre pic for me. Elegantly clean composition with eye-catching juxtaposition of lines and shapes. Winner by a mile!

really like all three of your pictures for the abandoned theme, the stand out for me is the tyre shot. Texture, contrast and good framing

Thanks so much for your comments about the tyre shot. I liked it too, but as it's not my usual sort of image I couldn't really trust my judgement if that makes sense. Nature is much more my usual thing. I guess that's what the 52 is all about - thanks guys!

I really like #3 for this theme. It tickles me and the composition is just very smart. If you could lift the shadow details very slightly it would be absolutely spot on but its 99.9% there anyway... really good spot. (y)

Thanks for the feedback Paul - I've had a little play - do you reckon this is the right amount to lift the shadows?

Hi Emma. Love the image of the single leaf - excellent composition and beautiful colours. Definitely worth framing. I quite like the old tyres too - again, good balanced composition with the sign occupying top left quadrant and tyres lower right. Great work.

Hi Emma - I can see more detail in the dark parts now, but then that might be to do with it being slightly larger :) My eyes aren't what they used to be... :p

I'm one of these funny people that likes to be able to make out the dark stuff - I'm oddly drawn to it. A bit like Darth Vader, perhaps :exit:

I like the thinking behind #1 for the Abandoned theme. Well executed too with good use of DoF.

My favourite is #3 though. Slightly abstract in nature I like the fact that it has some humour too.

My 'thinking' may have been a bit of shoehorning as I'm a bit partial to shots of lone leaves, Ian - especially when I can't travel to find more interesting landscapes...:D Thanks for your comments on the tyres, too.

Aah..so by a bit you meant a lot ;) I have tried lifting the shadows further, but it all begins to look a bit unreal to me...probably just my lack of PP skills. Fear of overcooking...the path to the dark side...

Love the Happy cat shot, the fire in the background really makes him look warm and cosy.

Abandoned - my favourite is the leaf. I think the contrasting colours emphasise the feeling of it being the only one left.

I like all three Abandoned shots but my fave is the leaf. Using your new reflector was an inspired idea as the colour on the leaf is fab. Number 3 was a good spot though and humorous too :)

Hi Emma

Great start to your 52 challenge sorry its taken so long to get round to commenting

Old - Lovely some great detail in the books and the wood lovely lighting too.

Metal - Great image love the detail and the lighting effects

Captive - Love the lighting gives a feel of being locked up(not that I would know)

Miniature - Nice colours and details love the shadow of the bottle/vase

Happy - Oscar looks lovely and very happy and connected to be near the fire love the DOF

Abandoned - All 3 are great images but the leaf for me is the best the colours as wonderful such a simple image but sometimes they are the best

Captive: Nice! Works well for the theme and I do love these kind of shots!

Miniature: Nice use of the cork. Looks great to me! :D

Happy: Awww, he does look happy and content. Fire in the background gives it the right atmosphere. Perfect!

Abandoned: That works for me for the theme. :P Lovely colours and composition. I like the abandoned tyres as well. Actually, I love it because of the No Parking sign. Makes the picture really funny! And the corrugated metal forms nice patterns on the picture, and kind of higlights the tyres and the sign very well.

Hope you're feeling ok from your op!

Happy - love the shot (re-shoot especially) and Cat + open fire = nothing but happy ! - very nice :)

Abandoned - love the composition, colours and DOF of the leaf - my pick of the bunch

Thank you all - lovely comments :)

Thank you for all your comments Sheylara - I had a bit of a setback after the op - but feeling much better now, thanks!

The leaf is an interesting take on the theme but I prefer the abandoned tyres shot. Simple elements with three distinguish shapes; the rectangle 'No Parking' sign, straight parallel lines of the corrugated sheetings and the round circular tyres. I like it. (y)

Trying hard to figure out the camouflaged object! Something odd and man-made item is amount the nature falling leaves. It fits the theme.

Hi Emma :)

Abandoned - A nice selection of shots, but the Tyre shot is certainly the pic of choice for me, the edit with lifted shadows works very well, you have handled the verticales perfectly, and with the inclusion of the no parking sign, a great find, well composed shot... love it

Camouflage - I quite like this, mousy does blend in well, a nicely lit shot and great colours too :)

I had to look to find him Emma.
Very nice!

I had trouble figuring out what the camouflage was until I read DK's comment. Nice work! Looks like a cosy cubbyhole, almost heart-shaped. I like how you framed it!

I almost didn't see the subject of the camouflaged shot well done nice colours. I like the abandoned shot more, good work.

Hi Emma

Abandoned - the leaf shot's nice with DOF used to good effect but for me it's the tyre shot, which I think is great.
Camouflaged - took me ages to spot it, which I suppose is the while point. Although there's a juxtaposition of man-made against natural, the woodgrain means it makes sense in its setting.

Hi, great camouflage pic takes a while to notice the mouse, lovely colour too

Great shot for camouflage love the colours and DOF well done

Why are you not happy with that - it's a nice fun take on the theme and with nature involved is a bonus. Lovely earthy colours, like the subject and you've done so well getting detail in that dark tree hollow. Excellent

Thanks Stan. The camouflaged object is a little wooden mouse we bought from a local wood turner a few years ago.

I had a little mouse like that Emma and I can't find it ....maybe he left home :)

I really like your shot ...a super find in that lovely moss covered hole, a perfect hideaway for your little mouse among the brown leaves.
He was from a local woodturner a few years back and usually lives on top of one of my favourite books on a bookshelf. I think he enjoyed his trip to the woods ;)

It was a very windy day, and some of the shots I took were a bit soft as I didn't have my sturdiest tripod with me - the sigma 105 is very unforgiving! This one was sharp enough, but I'd forgotten to put his tail into view and wasn't sure about the angle he was facing. I also noticed he'd lost his nose at some point over the past few years - poor mousie...wow...I never realised I'd be putting so much thought into a shot of a little wooden mouse...what is the 52 doing to me?! ;)

Thanks Nick - that was the idea I had with the wooden mouse - a trip back to his 'roots' and all that!

That'll be a "wood mouse" then? ( yes there really is such a creature ) :D

Good idea Emma, well thought out

I spotted the mouse straight away. :p ... what fun we're having, nice one Emma. (y)

Abandoned is a epic image, something I would have taken and be well chuffed with.

Great shot for camouflage love the colours and DOF well done
