am i right in thinking your employer has to give 12 weeks notice of new employment contract.?
the boss has just decided we have two weeks to bring up objections to our new contract.
i,ve asked him for the copy of the original, as it appears no one actualy has a copy of one.
the new one requires us to bend over, drop trou , and grasp our ankles.
so far, most drivers have just said they arent signing.
can they sack you for that?
apparently they will require us to work monday to friday(basic 40 hr week) overtime is mandatory.
(welcome to the transport industry.) weekends and bank hols to be worked as required by the company .
bank hols at normal rate + day of in leiu (sp).
oh and its 36 pages of does and donts.
i,m still looking for another job.
 
If you're in a union get your rep to pass the new contract on to their legal dept to check it out (failing that CAB might be able to help). I'm not sure where the boss stands on his timescale for signing but assuming he's right and the contract is above board and you refuse to sign, you effectively resign.
 
well. we will see what happens. most drivers have refused to sign the new contract, full stop.
i've put in an A4 sheet of paper , based on my original contract, with reasons why i'm not signing the new contract AS IT STANDS .because it alters my original terms and conditions sustantialy.(major pi** take).
two more drivers have put their notice in.
several others are looking for alternative employ.
and one warehouse guy walked this morning after his supervisor told him
" sign it , or you'll be looking for another job".
arent employers funny.
oh, a couple of guys are in unions. theyre getting their bods to look at em.
still dont think they can push changes thru in two weeks.
and in case anyone thinks i,m winging. i average 53 hrs a week excluding breaks. and thats in five days.we even work between christmas and new year.

so why are you not in a union? - this may be a really really good time to join
