.............. so after being out of work for nearly 2 months and finding it very hard work trying to get a job in my trade , i have just got a start , driving local buses , well learning to pass my PSV first :lol: , complete and total career change for me , but needs must as the saying goes , cant wait to get stuck in :clap:
 
May I be the first to congratulate you, its really tough out there and many of my IT friends have to change careers too.
 
Congrats!

Remember those who aren't too steady on their feet, when stopping and starting.

P.S. It hasn't officially been PSV for about eighteen years. It's PCV now. (Passenger Carrying Vehicle).

Mine expired this year as I reached 45. I would need to get another medical check to get it renewed but I'm sure I would fail the sight test as I only just passed it fifteen years ago.

thanks all , going to be a steep learning curve , i have driven nothing bigger than a transit in the past !!! :eek: , just going to be nice to be out there earning again :clap:

thankyou , i am somewhat annoyed that i cannot find work in the trade i am trained for , however i am realistic enough to realise that needs must , better to be earning than not i reckon :)

thankyou , i am actually looking forward to it , new opportunities and all that :clap: , who knows where it will lead , a couple of years time i might be driving down to spain for a living :)

Congratulations Paul, Just listen to the trainer,they usually have years of experience and you will soon get used to the size.
Mostly single deckers now,but beware if you move to double deckers and don't get training on them because the do handle differently

thanks , very rare to see doubledeckers round here now , it is actually starting to sink in a bit now , going to be an experience i reckon , then i think there are loads of people that do it it already , if i apply myself as i have always done then it should be no problem :)

Driving a bus is easy...it's steering it away from all the other nutters on the road that's the hard part :D
You'll learn lots of new driving skills in your job and it will give you a completely new outlook on driving, and also the general public :thumbs:

Being a bus driver has given me some great confidence on the road and improved me as a car driver.

It's a shame the job isn't what it used to be, but it can still be a really enjoyable job, out on your own all day, no managers breathing down your neck checking your work every 2 minutes. Mixing with the public all day.

thanks , and i do mean that for the nice comments , this is the first time i have been out of work my entire life , i know i have been luckier than most getting back in quickly , its a horrible feeling to me though , not being in control , now at least i am in control of my own destiny again , it is upto me to get it right :)
 
so , medical passed , had a driving appraisal and that went ok , licence fast track application sent off , got a pile of books and a couple of DVD's for the theory part , its all a whirl !!!! , seriously i cant believe it was only tuesday i had the interview :lol:

Well done mate and good luck on the course. I admire anyone who stands up and brushes himself down and gets on with it. You deserve the job and I hope you enjoy it. I'm sure you will.

Just had a go at an online theory test , no practice at all and i got 42/50 , only needed 43/50 to pass , so thats looking ok , just opened the dvd boxes they gave me and there are no discs in the boxes , will have to go back in the morning :bang:
 
Don't forget the PCV theory test is different from the normal car one :)

When the car test had 35 questions, the PCV had 25.
It's largely down to common sense and safety. Think 'safest and best answer' and chances are you'll be right.
 
it was the PCV test :) , just had a look through the driver CPC test book , and got all the answers right in the sample case study , i reckon you are not wrong when you say a lot of it is common sense Marcel :)
 
Ah right, so the PCV is up to 50 questions too now? Bloomin eck :)
I'll say this too....Enjoy your 6 weeks or so driver training. It was the best part of the bus driving I ever did. We used to go out down country routes....stop at butty shops for breakfasts etc. It was a really good laugh :D
 
yeah , used to see them doing driver training round where i used to work :)
 
small update , went to the depot today to do a mock theory test , got 99% in the multichoice and was at ADI standard for the hazard perception , well happy , just need to perform that good at the real thing and the theory at least will be sorted :)
 
If only that was the real test, I bet you would be over the bleepin' moon
