Emigrating

Mate of mine went out there two years ago now having never been there before!

He was a Police Officer in the UK and went out on the back of his wifes points as a school teacher. He became a Private Investigator which was not so good and now has retrained as a building inspector.

I think you have to do your research as everybody will have a stories at both ends of the spectrum. The only downside for him was he came off the UK housing ladder and he would struggle to get back on (assuming no house crash!) it if he came back.

Good luck!

I spend a fair bit of time working down there...5 trips last year.

It's a fairly relaxed pace, plenty of open space, housing is relatively cheap (about 30-40% of UK prices), North Island climate is a little better than the UK but South Island is pretty similar.

The downside is that their economy is in a precarious state and they need skilled immigrants to get it kick started as their own skilled labour trolls off to OZ to make the big bucks.

My parents moved there 3 years ago and really haven't looked back.
