funny story......i was at the focus show having a look round with my sony DSLR hanging around my neck when suddenly....i walk right onto the canon stand:lol::lol:

in a desperate attempt i hid the logo of my sony to save any more potential embarrassment, it wouldnt have been so bad but i only walked onto the stand to cut through to a different stand.

what a laugh it was:D

You've obviously not met the bunch on here who practically want to mame those who went to focus with a camera with them then ... :cuckoo:
 
I walked straight on there bold as brass with my D300 round my neck accepted the admiring glances and the mutterings of "Wow look he has a D300" and walked straight off again...;):lol::lol::lol:

At least you could just walk up and have a go on the Canon stand...well disapointed with Nikon, massive queues everything in glass cases no touchy feely unless you waited and waited and waited for someone to be free to deal with you. I went back there three times and still never touched a DSLR D300s and above or one single lens. Run out of time in the end well disapointed...

People want to mame those who went to Focus with a camera? ...It's a camera exhibition!! If you're spending a serious amount of money you normally want to try before you buy!! :bonk:
 
i only took my camera to document the event really as memories, also to try out some new lenses. i just bunged a 50mm lens on and off i went. though i do find it weird when people bring out these 300mm f2.8 primes just to "look at me im loaded"

Yeah but some people are there with a d3/1d type camera, 70-200 lens on, speedlite on top...... what exactly are they photographing! The light is awful in the NEC - you also see swarms of people firing off shots of the models who are used for lighting demos..... their shots will be awful because the models are unlit through their cameras.

Yes there will be some who have cameras in their bags to try accessories before they buy, but there are far more who seem to be showing off their super expensive camera and taking awful pictures of nothing much in the process!!

oh and your original post is stupid! Do you really feel embarassed about having a rival brand of camera, because that is pathetic - many of the people on the canon stand would be in the same boat, maybe looking to switch to canon, or like many others no interest in canon but still eager to play with a 1dIV or a 600mm tele. Pretty sure the canon staff dont care in the foggiest which brand visitors own!

I agree, I am a canon shooter but was really looking forward to having a play with a Nikon. I was interested in how they differ. However, those little booths had massive queues and also looked a bit more oppressive, with the rep very close etc. The canon stand seemed more informal, I went back and forth a few times. I wish I'd never touched the 1D IV though, my 5D feels much more consumer now! :'(

I didn't take my camera because I didn't want to look like that! However, I regretted it. There was a demo stand, can't remember the company, but they had great guy giving lighting tips. He was setting the model up taking a few shots and then letting the audience shoot too. The massive softbox was flash triggered so the model was lit, although I admit with lots of togs snapping the triggering would probably not have been perfect for all.
 
So far between this thread and the other thread that continues to knock those who took their cameras to dare take pictures of models at Focus, you are obviously showing off if you had anything other than a box brownie around your neck and you have a problem with your partner and cannot afford to hire a model!

Oh and how dare you take your camera out and take a photo of a landscape, someone may be watching you and you must be a show off!

Just wish some could understand that taking a photo and using a photo opportunity is why some of us are amateur photographers. The reason we might keep our cameras around our neck is just in case an opportunity arises. Surely we are all like that? Or maybe some of us are not interested in photography but just having a go at those of us who are.

I love my hobby and suffer to take a picture. It could be that I take far too much gear when walking 10 miles to get one picture that maybe I cannot get because the light is not right. I took my camera and two lenses to Focus, lugged it in my bag - how dare I - but did not find one opportunity sadly. So it stayed in the bag, but I would of happily taken it out and brandished a big or small lens, whatever was needed at the time. Amazing that isn't it? Sometimes you need a large lens to take a picture. Write that down as it must be a new thing judging by the people who have been knocking those who took a big lens.

I did mention taking a picture last year of a model who was superbly lit and entered it into a recent competition. That is one of the reasons I take pictures. I also like to listen to someone giving a lecture and learning from them and if the opportunity arises using what they suggest straight away.

Anyway, unlike some I won't knock those who did or did not take a lens. After all that is your prerogative. The fact that exhibitions like Focus are busy obviously makes walking around quite difficult, so I walked slowsly and cautiously because we all have a right to be there and do what we want.

Well done Chris for being open minded. When some idiot is walking round and smacks you in the back 3 times with a big lens after being told once to watch what he is doing. And thats not trying new lens or photographing a model. So on the fourth time he should expect to have incerted where the sun does not shine. Nothing to do with taking a camera to Focus or not!
 
I saw a couple of blokes joking around the Canon stand. It was obvious one was a Nikon user, as the other was trying to get him to actually stand on the Canon stand. He was saying things like ' go on, you know you want to' and ' you won't spontaneously combust ...' and other similar things. They were obviously joking around, but it did made me smile.

And for the record, I took my camera to Focus, but it never left my bag.
 
Sony? Oh yes... they make Playstations.

What's that camera they do... eyetoy or something?

I honestly cannot understand why anyone would get upset by someone using a different brand.

It's rather pathetic - it's like getting upset because someone goes to a car show in a different car.

It's only a camera. Do these people shout at people who have different superstore loyalty cards as well?
 
I think a lot of folk knock the 'other' brand as they've spent their hard earned cash on a particular brand and feel secure in blinkers. I'm no more loyal to my camera than I am to my tv or my cooker. It's just a tool at the end of the day - not my football team.

As for the folk who carry all their gear round their necks at any photography shows - I guess it's up to them and I don't care. Whilst I'm sure many wish to try stuff out or even take photographs I bet there's a few people who sadly really do want everybody to know that they have the gear. I guess for some it's a status thing and without taking their gear they wouldn't be able to lift themselves above the masses. Again - I've no problem with that either.
