Elyssium

No i thought it was very average.

Ditto, trailers really do look better than the movie sometimes.....

Not seen it, did wonder about buying it as trailers looked interesting, but not sure I'll bother now...

Ditto posts one two and three..

let's be honest...wasn't worth it watching...

It wasnt *that* bad, worth renting maybe. If you liked district 9, even more so. I found district 9 a bit "meh" as well though.

District 9 was better the second time around, not world beating but watchable. I think one problem with it was it was so different from the standard Hollywood pap we get fed, it took a bit of getting used to. Elysium is the standard Hollywood pap though, big names playing shallow characters (badly) padded out with lots of shooting.

I loved district 9 as it was different to the usual pap. Not the best film, but a damn good attempt.

Elysium is a similar style, earth section was good, back story was good, I found the bits on Elysium very wooden, a bit stepfather wives and a bit storm in a tea cup.

I watched it last night thought it was ok pretty good but could have been a lot better
It was another one of those films set in the future where the world is a very grim place

I watched Gravity last night, maybe it's me but I wasn't impressed with it either. The eva scenes were very well shot and it was all very beautiful but lacking in any real storyline. Just another excuse for Hollywood to get SB into and out of ever more ludicrous situations. They could have done so much more with it.

I thought that (prometheus) was dire as well. I do like some films though honest.

It was like so many films today, after a good start it left me disappointed and feeling they could have done so much more with it.

Prometheus was so disappointing, really bad writing!

Maybe I need to watch it again, dont recall that.

As you mentioned earlier on, you probably blinked to be fair. It wasnt on screen very long. The main female character gave bith to a tentacled alien thingy, which then attacked the 'engineer', and this was the alien that resulted...just before the credits went up.

Sequel coming in 2015 apparently. Im a massive fan of the Alien films (y)

Actually she didn't give birth to it, she surgically removed it from herself, stapled her stomach back together and went off to do battle with the bad guys, yay for hollywood!

Ok ok, so a DIY caesarean with the help of a machine...same thing :p

If you think about it, "the " alien from Alien was the first to take on that appearance. They evolve according to the creature used as a host.
The much smaller, paler version from the third instalment was born of a dog and looks quite different.
I need to get out more.

Plus, I believe that Promethius was set about 30 years before 'Alien', so there would also be a certain amount of evolution within the breed as they learn to survive in new surroundings and atmospheres/environments...

I should also go out more :D

<sound of penny dropping>

Well blow me I never knew that.

Prometheus is £3 for the DVD on amazon. Says it all I think. If I see it cheap in Sainsburys sometime I might pick it up.

Or an Ox if you watch the (in my opinion) much better 'Assembly Edition' version of Alien 3. That version holds the story much better together than the released version, and its close to what David Fincher originally showed the studio bosses before he resigned after they kept making more and more demands of how the film should go; I think it was such a crime for the studio to butcher his film like they did. 'Aliens' is still my personal favourite in the Alien series though.

I did like Prometheus, and felt that as a prequel (which obviously will always have the disadvantage of the viewer having some perceptions as to what will eventually happen) it worked quite well as it set up what would eventually occur in Alien, but had an original story which didn't give away everything, or clearly answer what causes the events in Alien (the crashed Engineer ship on LV426 etc - it doesn't answer why that was there for instance, but gives the idea of what it was).

Well please; you whine on about how dire Promethius is, and that there's no alien in it that looks like the one from Alien………

Yeah but not "the" alien. Unless I blinked and missed it. Just some wierd white worm things I remember.

…….so clearly you’d been expecting one and so had obviously missed the concept completely.

Then you start prattling about pennies dropping in response to my post. Was that because at that point one actually did, in your head?

And to top it off, you witter a little more about how you might pick it up on DVD when it drops cheap enough to match your budget. WHY?????? If it’s that dire, just….WHY?
