I'm aware of a few places in London and the south but wondering if anyone could recommend a repair centre in the north. Preferable Manchester or Sheffield as I live between them. I have a 1200rx and a 600rx that need some tlc but don't want to pay the earth as I'm not getting as much use out of them as I used to.

The Flash Centre - London, Birmingham, Leeds http://www.theflashcentre.com/our_stores.html

The obvious place would be The Flash Centre in Leeds (TFC are the official distributors and repairers for Elinchrom in the UK).

Edit: Hoppy got there before I hit 'Reply'. Nice folks in Leeds; they always seem to have time for a chat and a coffee on the few occasions I've visited them.

What I am hoping to find though is an enthusiastic small company or individual, without all the overheads, and hopefully quite locally, that is happy to do it for a fair rate of pay. I'm tempted to just look for used replacements rather than pay TFC to quote a price that is probably going to be too high for me to go ahead on.

What's actually wrong with the heads?

TFC changed their pricing from a flat fee to bands, if it's very minor it may be slightly cheaper (but it probably won't be).

No idea. The 1200rx monoblock tripped my surge protector twice and won't come on now. Clearly the internal fuses didn't blow. I keep meaning to check that the fuse in there was the right one. There's some damage on the panel from a drop going back a few years so I think it's fairly serious. The 600rx also had a drop earlier this year but works but the buttons on the panel are all squashed in tight so no adjustments can be made. It's permanently on full power. This might be simpler but then again it may need a new panel.

It might be worth phoning or emailing the TFC repair guys for a discussion about your problems.

Last time I had a query they were happy to give advice that avoided a mind-boggingly simple repair by them.
(Replacement battery for my Ranger: they advised what battery specs to look for, and approved my eventual choice - ultimately saved me over £100, and the hassle & expense of sending it away for repair.)

But a local independent could well prove a better alternative, altho' I'd imagine any non-standard spare parts would have to be bought from TFC anyway.

Good luck with your search, I'd be interested in your successful solution.

I usedthis guy for about half a dozen repairs - LINK

Send stuff by courier. So far good service, though normal turnaround is a a couple of weeks - don't know if he does a pro/fast service.
