How much better would a Background Reflector be than a Elinchrom Flag Set?

The main use would be to light a white background using two heads.

Cheers

I am leaning towards the Background Reflector, while twice the price the ability to add gels easily has it's advantage.

Anyone tried either or maybe both?

Cheers.

I don't really understand the options that you've given :'(

The reflector throws more of the light forward, whereas the flags just shield the lens from spilled light.

I use both at the same time.

Unless of course I've misunderstood your posting...

the reflector is used to light the background and stop any light spilling onto the subject.
using the flags stops the light spilling on to the subject too.

I prefer to use strip boxes, so neither gets my vote.

The flag set your referring to, is it from the flashcentre?

It's just a kit they've put together, a couple of clamps and black card. Flags can be used in any scenario to stop light from hitting parts of the frame you don't want it, a flag isn't specific to lighting a background. Flag is a generic term, I could flag off a light with a birthday card or OK magazine if I wanted to, that kind of thing...

This kit is just like a barndoor, and for full length you'll struggle lighting a full background evenly with just standard reflectors and flags, unless you've got loads of room.

There's a million and one ways to light a white background well, it depends on room and money £$

Ideally, you're looking at a raised white floor, a flat white background, 4 x large V flats white on one side, 4 lights, blah blah blah....

The reflector will help you get an even coverage of light on the background.
You may still need additional flagging but it will depend on placement.
