Elinchrom Bxri or ranger

WOOHOO!! lol. Just had a look, I think I need a Skyport RX Receiver, and the RX to Ranger RX adapter. This can be triggered, and the power adjusted, using my universal transmitter on camera...I think...sound right?:help:

Yep sound right to me. Though I'm just moving over to the new PW's TTl and Flex, as they'll be able to remotely operate my SB 900's and my RX, and all separately when the AC-3 zone controller is available next month

I'm not up to date with all of the PW gear, so I'm guessing theres something special about it.

I trigger my two SB's using skyports, with adapters, and they trigger fine, can't adjust the power and they're on manual obviously.

The new PW's will allow you to alter the power of your speedlites as well as having full ttl and faster shutter sync. :)

Do they allow you to adjust the power of an elinchrom rx head/ranger too? Or are you sacrificing being able to adjust your Elinchrom lights for being able to adjust your speedlights?

Nope, that's the beauty of it, they will work with any elinchrom RX units as well as the speedlites. So with the addition of the Zone Controller you can control three sets of lights, individually. So in my case, two SB 900's and the Ranger RX, all individually controlled (though ttl, won't work with the RX).
I think they also work with Alien bees too.

That's very cool! I'm not going to research them, at all, because I know ill end up buying them lol

Seriously? On the compatibility chart on innovatronix website, the BXRI is listed as compatible with the Explorer XT SE. So I would make the assumption based on that, that it "should" power a BXRI out of each socket (i.e 2 heads at least!)

Theres a video on the flashcentre website where they mention doing a shed load of full power flashes with a dlite4, and thats multi voltage isnt it?

It's looking like I'm gonna get a Ranger RX to be fair, when I'm spending alot of money anyway, I dont really want to make compromises like with the quadra's power, and the xplorer being mains voltage outside and somewhat open to the elements.

Yep. Pretty sure it is only shown as compatible using one head.

Ranger rx is the choice for you in any case. :)

Oh yeah I had another question. I have one of the universal skyport transmitters, I dont think it's the current model, but there ARE + and - buttons on it, is it compatible with a Ranger RX with an RX receiver fitted to it?

The universal receivers will work but you will not be able to adjust the power.
You need the rx receivers. The transmitter is the same.
The newer model is built better and has a speed mode which can allow you to shoot a touch faster.

There is a unit the allows control of elinchrom power levels. I know of someone who tried it and sent it back due to problem in range using it. I am sure this will be resolved in firmware at some point.

The system can allow you to control both levels but the unit required for the elinchrom and speedlite controls are both different.

I am sticking to the sky port system as I have found them to be as reliable as the pocket wizards but I will be picking up pocket wizard to take advantage of the hyper sync timings and as a result potential higher sync times.
