Elements vs Lightroom - Which Should I Get

In the near future I will be replacing my aged laptop and along with it my editing software, I am currently using Elements 6.
I cant afford CS5 so I am looking at purchasing Elements 11 and/or Lightroom, would this be a good combination or should I just get one or the other.
 
If you do lots of tweaking then get both otherwise LR4 would be sufficient. I only use LR4.
 
I use LR for 95% of my PP and resort to Elements only if I need cloning out or layers. The LR organiser is streets ahead of the Elements version too.

For me I would be tempted to go with LR4 as it is very powerful both as its primary function of cataloging and organising your shots (be prepared to invest to get the most out of this functionality) as well as now having excellent editing capability.

Admittedly it's not up there with PSE or CS6 but it's not mean to be.

If you can afford both go for them but if only one, hold off on PSE and wait as this often has offers i.e. Amazon's Black Friday deals with heavy discounts available.

Fully agree with both of you.

I have CS4 but can't remember the last time I used it :shrug:
 
You can still get PS CS2 free HERE

I'm not sure which I prefer between it and Elements 10 to be honest, so wonder if you could get by with that and Lightroom

It's not free. You still require a licence to use the software.

I have CS2 when it was free from the Adobe site complete with serial number. Just started it up & it is asking permission to connect to Adobe updater to which I have said no in case it buggers it up.

Can I disable it asking me to update as I feel I did get it when they were offering free - no strings attached?
