There is no such thing as a stupid question just a stupid reply

Lightroom is an application specifically designed to process and catalogue images that have been shot in RAW format. Having said that it will also handle jpeg and tiff's as well.

Lightroom wont do any image manipulation or retouching. It hands these tasks off to applications such as Photoshop.

So whats the point. Well if you've got lots of image to "process" and archive lightroom will do all that in one application for you. It'll also allow you to print these images as well as prepare them for uploading to the web.

It's price tag of around £170 means you really need it to afford it.

You can get from the Adobe web site a 30 day trail

http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshoplightroom/

The minimum spec for the computer is at least 750Mb or RAM preferably more And loads of hard drive space. You'll get the full spec from the Adobe site

Before you start though have a look at some Lightroom tutorials they'll help you understand what the application is all about.

There are loads of others. Just type Lightroom Tutorials in any search engine and you'll loads of hits.

Hope this has answered you question

I have just used up my last day of a free trial download (1 month) and I am definitely going to get it when I have a few spare squids.

Thanks all for the info and help,

I have been using lightroom for image developing and general enhancemnts.

I also use elements 6 for things like layering or more in depth manipulation.

From my researsh you dont NEED both applications, just depends on what you want to do. Lightroom covers everything you will need and is really usefull and userfriendly. elemends is a slimmed down version of CS3 and is handy for any exras.

Im still learning though.
