Elements 3 not loading on Vista

As per the title really. Up until now, I have not been using any sophisticated PP (I know, it shows in my images ;):D), but I do have my Elements 3 which is loaded on the old laptop. The only problem is, that the laptop will freeze once any sizeable image is being worked on.
So, I have tried to load Elements on to the PC, which has Vista as the OS, but it does not want to play ball. Is this a known problem, or can it now be fixed?

My understanding is that Elements 3 is not compatible with Vista - I think you have to go to Elements 5 or later for Vista
